Mr. Joël Giraud draws the attention of the Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy to the phenomena of “chemtrails” and geo-engineering. A number of articles have appeared in
specialized scientific journals relating to the "mysterious streaks in the sky" better known as
name of "chemtrails". More recently, the conference of the "skyguards" collective held in Brussels
on April 9, 2013 delivered its conclusions and presented a petition to the European Parliament to put an end to
clandestine aerial spraying in the sky. Geo-engineering that includes deliberate interventions

Thousands of witnesses can report streaks of planes in the sky developing from a horizon
at the other, widen and merge until covering the sky with an artificial cloud. Indeed officially these
streaks are considered to be traces of condensation left by planes but scientists
who have studied the issue highlight the fact that traces of condensation are identifiable
high altitudes of the order of 10 000 meters and that these are quickly absorbed while the chemtrails
appear at lower altitudes between 2 and 000 meters and fade very slowly. Some
hypothesize that it would be a question of spreading chemicals causing disease elsewhere
respiratory systems in populations overflown and that the aircraft concerned are military aircraft without
no identification possible, thus removing the runway from civilian aircraft which would therefore not be affected
by these traces. He also asks him to kindly let him know if any studies have been carried out by the
Government in order to provide precise answers to legitimately asked questions.

The white streaks visible in the sky after the passage of planes correspond to condensation
crystal water from the atmosphere around normal emissions from the aircraft. Burning kerosene
in aircraft engines in fact leads to the emission of gases and particles (soot, unburnt, dust)
which are at the origin of the condensation observed: these particles can serve as a condensation nucleus
under conditions of very high humidity of the atmosphere (100% to 130% of supersaturation) and for
temperatures below - 30 ° C. Below the 100% threshold, no streaks appear; on the other hand,
above 130%, a cloud forms. This phenomenon depends little on the altitude of the aircraft but
atmospheric conditions and meteorology. The size, duration and spread of the trails
condensation also depend on weather conditions. They are not harmful to health
and there is no evidence to date to contradict this fact. The subject of contrails is indeed a
concern but whose environmental stake lies in the evaluation of their contribution to the effect of
tight. Many studies are carried out on this subject, at national level by the National Office for Studies and
aerospace research (ONERA), and at the international level by the Intergovernmental Group of Experts
on climate change (IPCC). The fight against emissions and the limitation of air pollution
constitute one of the priorities set at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
