Hello,
I am looking for a piston compressor!
The reason is that I would like to experiment with a steam engine powered by steam produced at a rudimentary solar concentrator. For the engine, I would like to use a simple technology to eventually machine it myself later.
For now, I prefer to use an existing system.
Hence the idea of starting from a piston-type system, few parts, simple movement, reduced machining:

I can not find a lot of suppliers but I suspect that it is easier to buy a system that
directly integrates such engine / compressor.
Do you know if refrigerators are equipped with compressors of this kind?
I think there are also dentist compressors but the prices I saw are scary ...
Do you have an idea to find this?
I am looking for powers in 50 to 100W
please

Re: rolling piston motor for solar
the easiest way to make a steam engine is the good old piston and drawer! we are sure it works!
the rotary engine has an apparent simplicity in number of rooms but are problematic nests
main quality of the piston engine for steam: the cylinder is far from the crankshaft and its bearing or bearing: the cylinder can rise in temperature to avoid the condensation of steam which is a loss of energy ... and the mechanics well separated remains cold
anecdote: the scroll was invented and patented as a steam engine, but never successfully used as a steam engine ... used a century later as a refrigeration compressor

Re: rolling piston motor for solar
I have an old fridge Arthur Martin that I will get rid of, the engine does not have the same shape that the usual fridges:
I wonder if it's not a compressor of this type.

it stands as reasoning!
One of my criteria of choice is to get it machined on a CNC.
Not sure that the piston solution is the most suitable ...

hey Petrus! As we are not far from each other I'm leaving to test your compressor!

No PB, I would be glad that he still serves something instead of going to the rubbish.

On all the refrigerator compressors that I have seen dismantled, I have always seen only scroll compressors ... so close to the "engine" described above.

Re: Rolling piston motor for solar
and at home all the refrigerator and freezer that I dismounted are piston ... not recent enough to have a chance to find a scroll
the compressor in the previous photo seems old enough: I see coming an old piston compressor

Re: Rolling piston motor for solar
Lol
Mea Culpa, in fact the compressors I saw disassembled was heat pump compressor ... it was over 10 years ... it's back to me now!
Now a fridge is also a heat pump and the type of fridge compressor must depend on the quality of manufacturing the cooling circuit ...
