Batboostor: malfunction

by Mika1 » 23/03/23, 11:37

Hello everybody
I bought a Batboostor a long time ago. I was very happy with it, except that these last days, it no longer seems to work. : Cry:
Maybe I made a mistake in using it. I don't know. : roll:
In all cases, when I plug it into the mains with or without batteries to charge, the red LED and the green LED flash alternately.
I tried to contact the company but it seems to have been liquidated in 2015!?! It is also surprising that a company with a promising product like this one goes bankrupt.
So I don't really know the reason for the malfunction.
Could someone explain this to me?
Did you encounter the same problem and did you solve it?

Kind regards.

Hello everyone, I'm trying to dig up this post because I have precisely the same problem with my Batboostor.
Unfortunately, the instructions are quite brief about the LEDs, and do not address this problem, but when I plug in the charger, with or without batteries in it, there is an alternating flash of the red and green LEDs that I cannot manage. to interpret, I have recharged and regenerated hundreds of batteries since I got it and it seems designed to be rather repairable, but by whom and how??
If anyone has a lead...
Thank you in advance

Hello,
If you have a capacitance multimeter and a soldering iron, a clear photo of the top and bottom of the electronic card and there may be a way to investigate. : Wink:

This model sold out on the site and was even tested on the forum. econological-laboratory/test-of-the-batboostor-on-different-brands-of-batteries-t4177.html
Obviously, the standard alkaline batteries could not be recharged, only the Duracell Ultra M3 could be.

Hello Mika1
Thank you for answering !
I'm going to look at all this, I just noticed that you need a Triwings screwdriver to open it, I'm going to find my bit, open it and see how I can post photos.
It must have been seven years since I bought this brilliant charger, I have never bought a single new battery since, yet I have wireless alarm transmitters in the house that work with 9 volt batteries, so it's true, I recharge them more often than if I put new ones in, but I never bought batteries again.
I really hope I can fix it!

Hello,
Same problem with the red and green LEDs flashing alternately. I thought that maybe the 14V power supply was the cause (too weak...) but with a more powerful power supply, the LEDs still flash...
Here are some pictures of the circuit board (but most of the components are SMD).

Since Petrus supposedly has one and he came by 2 days ago, maybe he will answer…?

I personally have a solar charger for alkalines, I don't use it much at my depot but it works well.

The residual voltage before charging was not great (0,8V and 0,98V), but I think the results are more related to their chemistry, like on the varta.

The duracells have undergone a new charge / discharge cycle. The internal resistance has further increased to 1,4 ohms but I still get 559mAh
http://petrus44.free.fr/Divers/Duracell_m3_AA.xls

I'm going to try to deeply discharge the duracell to see how they behave.

Hello, start by scraping off any traces of oxidation that may form junctions between tracks, using a small brush with fine metal bristles.

2 tracks that have heated up well. Check if they are not cut.

There are certainly weak points on this circuit that need to be examined and corrected, as they may have suffered...

Many thanks to Obamot and Izentrop!
I had already started scraping and cleaning, but I will continue a little more ;-)
(some batteries must have leaked indeed, I had quite a bit of copper sulfate - blue - in quite a few places)

(Oh, by the way, the red LED called "contact", the one next to the power supply inlet, does not light up when plugged in, which it should do according to the documentation).
