An algae-based battery that still works after 1 charges

Innovations, ideas or patents for sustainable development. Decrease in energy consumption, reduction of pollution, improvement of yields or processes ... Myths or reality about inventions of the past or the future: the inventions of Tesla, Newman, Perendev, Galey, Bearden, cold fusion ...

An algae-based battery that still works after 1 charges

by jean.caissepas » 03/11/22, 11:21

British researchers have developed a new separator material based on brown algae that increases the life and capacity of sodium batteries, which are an advantageous alternative to their lithium-ion counterparts.

Sodium batteries are, from memory, very heavy...

They cannot compete with lithium batteries for all that is transport... moreover the article does not contain any performance figures...

And 1000 cycles sorry but it's nothing at all! For day/night storage, it's not even 3 years...

Lithium LTOs are already made to withstand 20 cycles...

Afterwards, I'm sure the news will please the ecolo bobo... and will be relayed en masse on social networks...

"Oh seaweed batteries, are they the same ones I eat?"

: Mrgreen:

Sorry to be realistic!

Promising battery announcements, there are many.

I do not ask how much is the percentage of realistic things, and buried?

Last 3 years, ok, but to see the energy that must be spent to manufacture them, the cost, etc.
So not necessarily uninteresting, even if it's not a must.

Already on paper it's not terrible...so I think we can forget...Or the journalists didn't understand anything...

— Answer “B”

Because in addition to what you have detected, we guess that it will not be “universal batteries” (at least not in the state..)

Without getting too far ahead, the article gives the clues that:

— “It also has the effect of increasing tenfold the storage capacity, efficiency and lifespan of these batteries, which could be used to sustainably power devices such as smartphoness. »

— “the uncontrolled growth of structures called dendrites when using this type of cell can weaken and pierce the separating membrane located between the two electrodes and cause a short circuit. »

...it would possibly be a dielectric problem, wouldn't it? So not batteries with powers of phew ...

Read or re-read the topics on the sodium battery:

electricity-electronics-informatics / innovation-battery-sodium-ion-t15766.html

fossil fuels-nuclear/lithium-crises-what-are-the-alternatives-t17149.html

The principle is not new: https://www.econologie.com/file/technol ... heorie.pdf and it is a battery with hot electrodes therefore which consumes energy...like that of Bolloré...we know the rest...

Otherwise the battery of my 2015 smartphone must be at uh...

365 * 7 / 3 = 850 cycles at least... at the rate of a complete cycle every 3 days...

It's better than my other 2018 smartphone!! : Mrgreen:

Assuming they find a way to overcome the current hurdles, the very design of the battery gives me an idea, since sodium is liquid, wouldn't it be possible to be able to regenerate the modules, by removing the "depleted" sodium from its metal” to empty it and put back a “new” sodium liquid...? (Even the same if you have to replace the sulfur).

I think some of you must have already thought about it?

The emptying of the smartphone?

: Arrow:

Never happy, it pollutes, it pollutes less, but it doesn't hold....

Nah still not : Cheesy: :D : Cheesy: I was talking about big batteries...

Though, will it recycle anyway?
