I don't know if you noticed, but in the "perpetual motion" device that we saw a video of, there is a very large spring at the top, like a motorcycle suspension spring. I wouldn't be surprised if this spring was heavily compressed and relaxed a little bit with each turn. in 48 minutes we do not even see the difference in the length of the spring, but that would explain the noise made by the device at each turn.
