Hello,
Last night they had a program on a large accelerator built at the border of Switzerland and France
A project of 4 billion, the loop is underground and is 14 km
there are 700 chambers a (muon) and large electromagnets of 200 tonnes.
several countries are participating in this big project, which should be operational in 2007!
But where I have difficulty is when the report tells us that this big installation is made to study the origin of the formation of the bing bang by a study of particle collisions.
I think we take the population for imbeciles ..
I hope there is another use behind such a construction.
and that there are other current problems more urgent than knowing where the universe comes from!
I don't think that as many scientists and as many means invest in this for nothing.

Re: Atlas and CMS
Hello,
No, that's normal, as things go we no longer need scientists to know where humanity is going ...
On the other hand, knowing where we come from before disappearing is a noble quest!
I share your indignation. But remember which team won the Nobel Prize in Physics?
On a discussion on the Z-machine we can read the edifying statement of a researcher:
I would add: and amuse researchers for 10 years ...

The cost of ITER has to be put into perspective ... enough to pay 1 million chaumeurs for a year ...
I would add: and amuse researchers for 10 years ...
