How much water does a German shower make ??
It must be measured with precision !!
It depends on the pressure of the water, which fixes its typical flow rate at one or two 10-liter buckets per minute, or in 5 min 50 liters or even closer to 100 liters, approaching 100 liters !!
A solution reduce the pressure by 2 to decrease by 2 the volume of water used per shower!
A typical water heater loses half of its heat in 3 to 4 typical days and therefore about 50 liters and more per shower and the rest lost by natural cooling of the water heater, we get 3 showers in 3 days, especially if we like hot water with large jets.
Finally, the interface between the hot water above and the heavier cold water below remains well defined and fades by thermal diffusion in water at 0,14mm2 / s:

either 0,14mm in 1s, 1,4mm in 100s 14mm in 10000s or 2h, 7 and 140mm or 14cm thick in 1million seconds or just under 12 days !!!
So the hot and cold layers remain well separated, over a time greater than the speed of cooling of the balloon, if the cold water returns from the bottom horizontally without huge eddies !!

Any energy that you supply to a liquid (your water) will no longer have to be supplied later ... (except the losses by transmission as said christophe)
So it's not ridiculous to put cold water in it ...
The only disadvantages of an oversized balloon is that it takes up more space than another and that it has more loss by transmission (although the insulation is sometimes higher too).
PS: what is ridiculous on the other hand is to heat water with electricity which is itself produced by letting out thousands of m³ (of steam) in the atmosphere.
So it's not ridiculous to put cold water in it ...

Archi false, without pressure, the water does not flow and zero flow, as we check by closing the water inlet valve on the water meter, then zero pressure !!!
If you barely open it, the pressure is low as soon as it flows a little and the flow is low and you will use little water for your shower !!
Ultimately fill a bucket of 10 liters of hot water and compel yourself to take a shower only with water from a single bucket of 10 liters !!
We will see if you can only take 3 showers in 3 days (30 liters real used) with your 300 liter balloon.
Measure the flow in l / s by measuring the time in seconds to fill a 10 liter bucket !! (in the order of a minute = 60s often for 3 Bars).
It's concrete with precise figures and not a theorist !!

Whether your water mixes or there is heat transfer, whatever, the water that comes in at a certain temperature must be heated and the economy is zero because you heat a preheated (mixed) water with faster loss hot water provided or you take it very cold, the expense will be the same!
In your case I would simply install a timer to heat only at night at a reduced rate because in any case nuclear power produces lost heat even after the slowdown for the night which results in the rejection of hot water in the sea or the short of water near the power stations!
In short! There is no saving in stopping your water heater for 3 days!
Insulate your pipes well to avoid heat loss and let it run at night!

Hey, I don't live in the bush and it's still too cold to hang a bucket in a tree. But this is what should be done.
Note: I saw this at a campsite in Turkey, but 220 L heated in the sun ... (it burns).

Yep, as the colleague said, you have to put a meter plugged into the cumulus. (I thought it was more expensive !!!)

there is a gradual loss of heat .... over time
to lose less, the ball should be wrapped up even more
My water heater is not that old and is located in the heated part of my house. so I think that the loss is very relative.

It's downright economical to cut the heater on 3 days. In 2000 I was renting I realized that my hot water tank was consuming 2kWh every night, whether I use it or not (maybe the new models have a thermostat cutting the heating if already hot?) . By cutting it, the water of the third day began to tie, so I relaunched every 3 days. A saving economy at the end of 2 months!
Now with my little water heater on Butagaz it's super economical, already more subscription to pay!
