Small electricity problem to solve!

by Grelinette » 25/06/09, 14:59

It is not really an econology problem but as it is for a good cause and there are electrical specialists here, I allow myself to call on their skills.

Here are the details of the problem:
I opted for a 24-hour natural brush-cutting system against fires around my home and which also enriches the earth: 24 horse-brushcutters (these are also incidentally the main engines of the future hybrid cart under development … the project advances !)

And that's the efficiency of the system

By the way you can admire the beautiful mobile shelter (I fix wheels to move it!) And made with almost only natural materials ... except the roof!

The goal is therefore to make a temporary park electrified around a clump to brush and move the park as needed.

The problem is that the park can be remote and that the horses are not under surveillance during the day or at night. There are therefore risks of opening by malice or ignorance of walkers, or that the park is broken if for example the horses are afraid (wild boars, dogs, motorcycles, lightning, shots by hunters, ...)

The idea is to design a system that warns if the remote park is open or broken.

I imagined a system which consists in passing an additional electric wire around the fence in addition to the electrified tape and to pass a low voltage current (12 v on battery or with a transformer on sector if the park is close to a house) and who comes to open a relay.
If the wire is broken, the relay closes and triggers an alarm, or better, activates a system that will dial a telephone number on a mobile phone (left on site in a waterproof case) to prevent the closure problem.
Image

How do you see the assembly and what do you advise me as materials (of recovery if possible) to use?

- for the battery: type of battery (car), mA?
- for transformer if connection to mains
- do you know a simple automatic system that allows you to dial a phone number on a mobile phone

Thank you for your advice and suggestions. : Idea:

Nb: if some are interested in this system, currently, to my knowledge, there is no material of this type on the market while the problem of open or broken park is very worrying for animal owners, in particular horses… there may be a big market and a patent! : Cheesy:

It's distant and you still have the sector? Or you will charge with a small PV.
For the battery a lead battery of 7 ampere / hour alarm will work wonders.
For the transmitter, send me your e-mail in mp.

(attention, it is necessary to check that there is field in GSM, because these automatic GSM transmitters need a good field. If necessary, make a test on several operators)

Grelinette,
I love your post and your problem ...

I'm so bad at electricity that I can't advise you.

but I have a neighbor who has goats and who could have had the same concerns as you since the goats are in an enclosure at the top of the hill and his house is close to the village ... he has a dog who is checked. he will look for the goats when they escape and it seems that he will seek his master when there is a problem!

(in addition his dog is not even on wheels !!!!)

: Mrgreen: it's green right?

If necessary, there is all this stuff on the eco store: https://www.econologie.com/shop/solaire-photovoltaique-c-35

For the GSM SMS transmitter, it is not given: 200 to 300 € in recovery I think it is not even worth thinking about it ... in addition you need the network: do you have any?

??? well we sell every week more expensive than that. How much do you think an accident caused by a stray horse costs?

Well, I was talking about the 1st price, the just found one at 250 € a few days ago with, in addition, GPS tracking as a bonus ... but in the case of grelinette it is useless ... unless you mount it ... on horse : Cheesy:

No idea about the quality of these products ...

Besides, is it also expensive?

A basic or recovery mobile phone costs € 10!

Am sure that we can "easily" hack a GSM in this case!

So where are we with the solution to monitor my brushcutters 24/24? ...

A quick question first: what exactly is GSM? Isn't this just the wave principle of cell phones? (Edit by Christophe: yes GSM = mobile phone)

If it's the same thing, wouldn't it be easier to "sacrifice" a mobile phone (low-end type with mini subscription) and to have an electronic system (it certainly exists, like USB) that is plug in to trigger a call from an external electrical voltage, or simply a mechanical system that presses a pre-programmed key to dial the desired number. I just saw that on my phone (a Nok ...) it's easy to do.

For example, if the relay closes (park gate open or broken wire), a system with electromagnet is pressed continuously on a pre-programmed key to dial my home or cell phone ... and the turn is play !

In addition it would be fun!
Imagine: suddenly my cell phone rings, I see that it is a call-alarm from the horse park.
I pick up and hear:
Image

Image
It is sure that if in addition there is the image on the laptop screen, it would be the best! : Cheesy:

Joking aside, if you have ideas to suggest to me, I take.

... So for the moment, to sum up, a priori, the idea would be to take a 12v, 7 Ampere house alarm battery connected to the wire which goes around the park and which loops on a relay.
Question: can a simple car battery be suitable?

If a solar panel can also be used to recharge the battery, it is even better.

Besides, Christophe, what exactly do you need as gear from the shop to recharge the battery? (panels, what type, power, amperage, regulator, ...)
There are lots of accessories on your link but no typical assembly ...

The mechanical thing that presses the button seems complicated and not reliable, but if it's a not too recent phone it should be easy enough to disassemble to solder a wire on the keyboard.

For mounting you would need a small relay a large resistance (that it does not consume too much) which permanently keeps the relay open and as soon as there is more juice (wire cut) the relay closes short-circuit the programmed key and therefore it calls.

While we are there we should also connect the phone to the solar battery.

Indeed there is what it takes on the econoshop (it's ok Christophe I do good advertising :D ) Panel, regulator, battery, otherwise a car battery will do, but it seems oversized.

I hope you don't have an answering machine, if you're not there hello the package :D your horses that will leave you hours of messages.

Thank you nonoLeRobot for all these details!

I recap

Materials:

- 1 battery. A car even if it's oversized, it's inexpensive and easy to find. Maybe a small car battery. At worst I take my car.

- 1 small relay. I will see what I have in my toolbox and I put the photo to know if it is good.

- 1 big resistance: there you have to give me details so that I go to buy it from the local grocer or that I dismantle it in my TV set. (there's nothing interesting on TV tonight!)

- thread: that I have miles of

- 1 old mobile phone: I had some but I think I brought them to the recycling center. An old second-hand laptop should be easy to find. At worst I change mine (I have a lot of points at Citron ... sorry at Oran .... By cons solder a wire on the keyboard to compose with current, I will have to explain.
(same as the relay, as soon as I have an old phone, I dismantle and paste the photos).

- 1 solar panel + 1 regulator to recharge the battery
Christophe can you give me a proposal for gear and prices.

Here it is.
For the video in real time so that my horses can call me, it can wait a little ... especially since they are a little talkative: they would blow up the package.

For the record, a few years ago there were animals that came to eat and turn all the hay of horses at night. To find out what it was I had the idea to connect a wireless doorbell to an automatic spot with radar and I removed the bulb : Idea: like that as soon as an animal came to traffic in the hay shed, it would ring a doorbell at my house ... : Cheesy:

Result of the races: all night the doorbell went off, I jumped out of the bed in a tornado, put on pants and ran towards the hay with a flashlight ... One blow it was for a cat, another for an owl, a hedgehog, a fox, a rat, a mouse, a butterfly ... it never stopped and I could not sleep because there was so much traffic in the hay! : Shock:

But I never knew which animal was messing up the hay and I finally unplugged my system so I could sleep : Evil:

Well for the resistance it will depend on the relay and I do not know them so well, may be to test. Test the resistances from the largest (in ohms, not in size) to the lowest until it is sufficient to trip the relay. Otherwise see with similar relay docs.

Otherwise I forgot VERY IMPORTANT you will need a fuse, very low amperage (0,5A may be) to put as close to the battery. It is very easy to ignite with a battery in the event of a short circuit.
