Insulate basement walls

by logredudon » 19/07/10, 16:50

Hello,

I would like to isolate the unburied part of my basement with styrofoam + plasterboard.

What thickness of polystyrene do you recommend?

4 cm should be enough (you can always put more) but I do not recommend putting plaster in the cellar for reasons of condensation and mold.

Except if the basement is heated ...

I would have liked to put 10 + 100, but having no place I have to settle for 10 + 60.

Hoping that it isolates anyway a little ... What do you think?

Better always put a little rather than nothing of the tt. 6cm is already good.
PS is insensitive to water and if the room is well ventilated there should not be too much moisture on the drywall. And the insulation will reduce the rate of condensation unless thermal bridging (at floor level for example).

The problem is there:
except if thermal bridge (at the level of the floors for example).

Because in a classic concrete house and blocks, polystyrene will leave them intact to the point that isolate the perimeter of the ceiling too !!
