Insert that does not heat the house

by vegaman » 27/01/14, 19:14

Hello everybody

I have just had a Bodart and Gonay Infire 744 insert installed. It has been installed in an old open fireplace.

A casing was put in the existing duct (very wide), it is a self-supporting insulated stainless steel / insulating / aluminum duct.

Here is the situation of my house
House little isolated.
A large room forming an L of 50m².
A room of 12m²
A dressing room of 11m²
Central heating, condensing boiler, low temperature radiators.

If one assumes that my house is 17 °:

With my radiators, I easily reach 19,5 ° in 1h30 / 2h
With the insert, with a day of heating it is difficult to reach 19 °!
The insert consumes about 1 log per hour (see +). The draw seems good, see even too much.
The baffles are fully open. There may be an improvement to be expected by closing these quibbles but in what order?
The air coming out of the insert, pulsed by the fan is lukewarm. I can leave my hand just in front of me, and a few inches from the window.
At night I put 3 logs at 23h, they are completely consumed to 4h morning. The thermostat is at a minimum. Moreover it does not heat anything. 16 ° the morning !!!!

Do you have an idea of what can happen? I specify that this is my first insert, so I have no point of comparison.

Thank you

According to its technical characteristics, it is an insert of 10 kW planned for 190 m3 max. Your house has to do this volume (75 m2 on the ground?) So normally it should not be a problem ...
but:
- how is your house isolated?
- how much does your boiler consume to hold your house at 19.5 ° C?

Maybe clues to find out what's going on?

At the isolation level it is very very weak. Just 20 cm of glass wool on the false ceiling. Nothing on the walls (30cm red brick). There is only 25 m² of the house which is well insulated. 20cm wall, 20cm ceiling

My boiler consumes about 1500L per year for 19.5 / 20 °

Hello!
This is certainly related to your insulation, did you do a study to see if you had "thermal bridges"?
Are your windows / doors "cold"?

no need for study, there is thermal bridge since the insulation on the walls is not there.
My windows is double glazing fairly recent, so the door so yes cold-proof I would say.

Excuse me to ask questions because I may not be all followed, but:
How high are you under ceilings?
Do you have attic?
Cellar, garage, below?
Wet or dry area?

I have 2m70 under ceiling, yes attic (not isolated at the moment), cellar on 20 m² (not in the room where the insert is installed)
I live in Picardy area rather wet, especially at this time.

For example tonight, I do a big outbreak, 5 min after the glass is super hot, I can not put my hand less than 10cm, the pulsed air is really hot. 10 min later the temperature of the glass and the air have greatly decreased, I can again put my hand in front, yet there are still flames and it remains half of my log (see 3 / 4).
Isolation or not of my house, I do not find it normal to lose as much in the insert in such a short time. Well, maybe I'm wrong.

Perhaps we should also look at the design of the insert.
I do not know the device in question, but I have known models with a neat design but in which hot gases go directly into the fireplace at the expense of heating capacity or consumption.

Tomorrow I will try to close a little baffles we will see if there is a difference.
