Maintain your lawn and garden in an ecological way

by Christophe » 27/05/07, 21:42

I create this post to discuss the maintenance of a lawn and in general of your garden in the most environmentally friendly way.

Indeed, for me it is quite inappropriate to burn fuel (even "organic") in order to maintain its mowing. We therefore equipped ourselves with a manual mower of this type:

Only here it is still a lot of work, so we were wondering to put a bio clipper... in other words an animal .... : Lol:

There is a friend who has a sheep but it seems quite imposing, especially since they can not stand to be alone, so 2 sheep ca bcp ... We lean more and more towards goats (dwarfs if possible) ... or others ???

Are there econologists who have ideas or feedback on vegetarian animals in their garden (advantages, disadvantages, health constraints, regulations, security against predators ...)?

ps: subsidiary question, mowing your lawn even with 0 fuel use is it positive, negative or zero with regard to the greenhouse effect according to you?

Good idea to talk about this problem.
I had sheep; it's a lot of work.
Goats eat everything, even hedges, and they always find a way to escape ...
Me too, it breaks my feet to mow the lawn, and I still haven't found the solution.
The hens, I gave up because of the foxes ...
The solar mower that works on its own? You need perfectly flat ground (moles and children prohibited ...)
For me, mowing the lawn is a big stupidity invented by man, and I am a slave to this stupidity. :D
Ha, yes, in addition there is the law, not everyone can have animals in their garden ... it's true ...

Bonjour.
It all depends on the surface to be mowed…
The hand mower, well maintained (sharpening), makes an excellent cut.
As it is more difficult with tall grass, it must be passed more often.
This makes it possible to mow in the English style, more often, and to leave the cuts on the spot.
The lawn becomes soft. But you have to have a scarifier once a year.

Who says beautiful lawn maintained, says selective herbicide galore…

At home I do not care, I let grow and pass the thermal mower 3 to 4 times a year.
In spring there are small flowers, very pleasant, but there are always these dandelion flowers which always want to be higher than the others and which swarm quickly…

Goats eat the branches, and even the bark of trees.
During the day, they must be tied to a lanyard to avoid this or the getaway. We move the stake when the grass is greener elsewhere.
They need a room to house them at night, to maintain (straw and water, salt).

Hello

I use a method of window cleaning, I let it grow and when it is too high a shot of rotofil and compost (noticed with the dryness it's been 18 months since I mowed).

if I had a bigger (as before) mower with 4 legs and a barbecue every year.

AH no, it's too sport! :D

I mow 1000 m² with a 4 stroke towed in 1 hour
I stuffed the fuel with capsules to see : Cheesy:

on the other hand I leave the cut grass on the spot, it's always better than putting fertilizer on it

That's it!

Guidi has loaned us his sheep (well, his sheep) since yesterday ...

Soon a small series of photos, just to compare the Before / After.

The hardest part was to close : Cheesy:

Different pets don't graze the same thing. It is true that if you want to breed it, it is a job, but if you are a vegetarian yourself, it does less.
Apart from the bell around the neck, this type of mower makes much less noise and only consumes grass: which we want to get rid of.

This type of mower prefers to walk in the grass, however if there is a collision with a vehicle, the owner of the animal is responsible. A sheep grazing will never do more than 5 km / h. Despite this, the right is given to humans and their horsepower ...
