Reforming an asus 1225B 11" laptop

And if they were repairing rather than throwing and change? Rediscover the pleasure of the repairs yourself. How to diagnose a problem or find spare parts? Repair itself is way to save money generally!

Reforming an asus 1225B 11" laptop

by phil59 » 18/08/22, 17:04

One of my kids gave me her little laptop, about 10 years old, 11" screen, which she used when she started in college, until her master's degree, and for 5 years, she has hardly used it more, and the battery for about 2 years is HS ....

Small format, little battery consumer at the time, it lasted about 6 hours on it, small screen.

Here is the boned battery...

Actually classic 18650 cell.

At least 4 dead.

The 2 on the left indicate more than 3.2V, but to see, as they are in //, if one is not HS ....

I hope it's not the BMS of death, because in this form, it will be difficult to find to put the batteries back in "the box", otherwise it will only be 3 instead of 6, if the amperage is sufficient , because voltage is about 12 V ....

I ordered a cheap SSD on Ali, a 250 GB or so, clearly sufficient.

As for the ram, a priori, it's planned on this model, and it existed in 2 and 4 GB, I hope it's 4 ....

But already a pb, the location I thought was for the hard drive, it's not that ...

Will have to open the beast....

I was planning to do this in nonWE, but it will wait until I get home....

I don't know yet if I'm putting back any Windows, or Linux, or both....

If I were you, I wouldn't buy an unbranded Chinese SSD.

For the use it will have, it does not matter.

Nothing to keep on it, and it's especially to go on the internet, and possibly, to do remote desktop on a server...

I had even considered making a linux USB boot key, and when everything will be configured, I would make an image of the disk, in order to reinstall everything if necessary, at V speed!

Well if it's "serious" if it breaks down after a while. Might as well put 10 more balls and have a good mark.

The few times, it's like the barrel of Fernand Raynaud's cannon, a certain time!

Well, I couldn't resist when I got back to our drop point....

I found a dismantling tutu, correct, and there was ka ....

Gently remove the 2 keyboard and mouse cables.

Then we remove the keyboard, and 100% access to the pc.

Let's change the disk to the SSD....

All that remains is to put the screws back in, then it will be time to install the operating system...

The time to do that is first, we use the ap"ro, we haven't finished yet, it's already gone up.

I tried several USB keys that I had taken, and the only bootable one is that of a windows 2016 server that I had installed as a test on a server "which was lying around ...."

Bon Bon Bon To my great surprise it is starting to install .... In fact this pc is the 4GB ram version ....

Good normally, tomorrow I go home, and will look for a win7 or 8-10 ....

And above all, put the battery back in service....

If the thing is 10 years old and you disassemble it, I strongly encourage you to change the thermal paste of the CPU which must be dry (or close to it) by the time.

Well, the battery doesn't work after my repair, I have the right voltage, and the intermediate voltages on the bms, but the battery is not recognized by the pc...

Bms hs, or part of the pc, I don't know....
otherwise the pc works properly, at its speed ....

Do you use battery cells from different manufacturers?
Have you checked the capacity of each element?

I too had to change the HDD of my crashed PC. I replaced it with an SSD like you.
I hadn't saved anything. I downloaded https://www.microsoft.com/fr-fr/softwar ... /windows10 and everything went without too much trouble. I just have one unknown device left.
Gain in speed, thanks to the SSD.

This is the third laptop in which I put an ssd.

Spectacular the difference in speed, even if the pc does not manage the SSD at best.

On the others, I had also gone from 2 to 4 GB of ram, and on the other from 4 to 8.

My 4 "red" batteries are at 4.06V, the 2 gray ones are the original ones, at 3.42V.
