The oceans are plastic seas and no one has succeeded in stemming this phenomenon. Except a 19 year old young man.
The news has been buzzing since the beginning of the week and you have all probably heard of Boyan Slat.
In October 2012, this Dutchman proposed to clean the oceans.
Yes yes, you read that right. The 17-year-old had come up with a revolutionary idea for cleaning the seas and repairing the damage done by men.
A native of the Netherlands, Boyan wanted to rid the oceans of the millions of tons of plastic that have been harming ocean fauna and flora for a while.
For his last year of high school project, he decides to start this titanic project using a sort of giant funnel to clean all known gyres *.
7,25 million tonnes of plastic could be recovered in 5 years.
Oddly enough, at the time, we took him for a madman rather than a genius. Here is a video of his feasibility study or how Boyan Slat clung to his idea.
Two years later, on June 3, 2014, Boyan announced the results of its feasibility study: his Ocean Cleanup project is completely feasible.
