"Independence" at the cost of an ecological disaster, according to Fabien Bouglé.

"Fabien Bouglé is a French community activist. For ten years, he denounces the ecological and financial disaster of wind turbines. Between 2011 and 2016, he is in touch with the central service of prevention of corruption of the French Ministry of Justice. In 2019, he is auditioned by the parliamentary inquiry commission on renewable energies of the National Assembly. Business leader in the financial and cultural sector, he is also elected municipal (no label) in Versailles. His last book, Wind turbines, the dark side of the ecological transition, is published the October 2 Editions du Rocher."

The UK government is affirming its commitment to a target of 40 GW of offshore wind power in 2030.

UK government affirms 40 GW offshore wind energy commitment

December 19, 2019 evwind

Her Majesty the Queen presented her speech to both houses of parliament, outlining the UK government proposed police and legislative plans and marking the opening of the new parliamentary year. It was revealed that the UK's target for installed offshore wind energy has been raised to 40 GW by 2030, and that the UK government will support the development of floating wind turbines.

The announcement follows a pledge by UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson in his pre-election campaign to boost offshore wind power ambitions from the previously set target of 30 GW by 2030 in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050.

Through the speech presented by the Queen, the UK government highlighted the importance of offshore wind power to growing the economy whilst reducing emissions. It also highlighted that the UK currently represents 34 per cent of globally installed offshore wind capacity.

The UK has nearly 10 GW installed and over 4 GW in pre-construction or under construction. In the last twelve months, a number of developments have seen the government cost of offshore wind fall and support behind the technology increase as its looks to cut carbon emissions.

In September, the cost of offshore wind dropped around 30%, following the result of the UK government latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, which provides subsidy support for major renewable energy infrastructure projects. Projects are now being delivered for as low as £ 39.65 / MWh. Successful projects included the Doggerbank Creyke Beck A, Doggerbank Creyke Beck B, Doggerbank Teeside A, Forthwind, Seagreen Phase 1 and Sofia offshore wind farms. The cumulative capacity of these awarded projects exceeds 5.4 GW.

Furthermore, the Crown Estate (TCE) announced plans in September to open up the potential for at least 7 GW of new seabed rights for offshore wind development in waters around England and Wales. TCE claims that Round 4 has the potential to meet the electricity needs of over six million homes. Round 4 was revealed following seven extension projects with a combined capacity of 2.85 GW progressing to the award of rights stage.

This follows the announcement of the offshore wind power sector deal in March 2019, to deliver increased offshore wind capacity, boost the UK economy and continue to reduce costs. As part of the deal, the government stated that it will hold another Contracts for Difference allocation round in 2021, with further auctions approximately every two years. Depending on the price achieved, these auctions will deliver between 1 and 2 GW of offshore wind farm each year in the 2020s.

Another connection of a large offshore wind farm, the Albatros project.

Germany's biggest wind energy plant has been connected to the grid

January 13, 2020 evwind

Germany's biggest wind farm has been fully connected to the grid. According to EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), its Albatros offshore wind farm is located roughly 100 km off the coast of Germany.

Image

“The Hohe See offshore wind farm has already been in operation since October 2019. Now its smaller neighbor Albatros is also producing electricity,” it has informed.

The Albatros project features 16 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines. Albatros is located near the 497 MW Hohe See project which consists of 71 SWT-7.0-154 wind turbines. Both wind farms are owned by EnBW (50.1%) and Enbridge (49.9%), and are expected to supply around 710,000 households combined with electricity when commissioned.

The full complement of 87 wind turbines have a total output of 609 megawatts, meaning that they can generate as much energy as a modern gas-fired power plant. That is enough to supply all households in Munich with green energy.

EnBW finished construction of the two wind farms as planned in September 2019.

Installation record for offshore wind energy in Europe

Posted on 06 / 02 / 2020 lemarin.fr

Europe installed 3 MW of offshore wind in 623, according to statistics presented on Thursday February 2019 by WindEurope.
It thus beat its previous record of 2017 which stood at 3 MW.

Scotland: Total to take majority stake in huge offshore wind farm project

AFP published on June 03, 2020

Total said on Wednesday it would acquire a 51% stake in a gigantic offshore wind farm project in Scotland, a "change of scale" for the oil giant in the sector.

The group has entered into an agreement with SSE Renewables for 70 million pounds (78,4 million euros) at the finalization and possible price supplements subject to performance conditions of up to 60 million pounds, specifies- he does. When completed at the end of 2022, this "Seagreen 1" farm, with a capacity of 1 megawatts (MW), will be Scotland's largest offshore wind farm.

The project, which represents an investment of approximately $ 3,7 billion, has just been the subject of a final investment decision. Located 27 kilometers from the Scottish coast, the park will be able to cover the needs of around one million households. Construction of the shore modules began in early 2020. The acquisition of Total also concerns an extension of up to 360 MW.

With this operation in the British North Sea, "Total is taking a strong position on the world's largest offshore wind market. This operation represents a major change of scale for the group's activity in this sector and is fully in line with our strategy for profitable growth in renewable energies and low-carbon electricity, "Total CEO Patrick Pouyanné said in the press release.

"Total's significant global expertise in offshore operations, combined with their ambition to contribute to the development of renewable energies around the world, perfectly matches SSE Renewables' strategic objective of tripling our production of renewable energy by 2030" commented Alistair Phillip-Davies, Managing Director of SSE, the main developer of offshore wind in Britain.

Total indicates targeting 25 GW of renewable electricity production in 2025. The group has also announced an objective of "carbon neutrality by 2050", considered incomplete however by advocates of the fight against global warming. At the end of May, eleven investors presented a resolution to a general meeting to force the group to more ambitious climate objectives, which was ultimately rejected by a majority of shareholders.

Norway: Hywind Tampen floating wind farm under construction

Posted on 02/10/2020 lemarin

The construction of Hywind Tampen, which will become the first floating wind farm in installed capacity with its 88 MW, has started. Equinor, the project leader, started work on Thursday, October 1 from the Kvaerner facilities in Stord, Norway.

This wind farm will partially supply Norwegian offshore oil and gas platforms.

.......
The Hywind Tampen project will be the first floating offshore wind project to supply renewable power for oil and gas installations. The wind farm will have a total capacity of 88 MW, and is expected to cover about 35 percent of the annual power needs on the five platforms Snorre A and B and Gullfaks A, B and C.

Hywind Tampen will reduce emissions from the Gullfaks and Snorre fields by more than 200,000 tonnes per year, which corresponds to annual emissions from 100,000 private vehicles.
