Technological breakthrough in energy storage

Renewable energies except solar electric or thermal (seeforums dedicated below): wind turbines, energy from the sea, hydraulic and hydroelectricity, biomass, biogas, deep geothermal energy ...

Technological breakthrough in energy storage

by stipe » 22/07/11, 16:19

A very interesting novelty to deal with several problems: The irregularity of renewable energies, the supply of energy to cars (see continue without changing anything to our good old gas car), and depollute part of the atmosphere (or rather clean it part of his CO2)

This pilot plant is the size of a caravan and operates in Stuttgart to supply several vehicles with carbon dioxide, water and electricity of renewable origin.

The carbon dioxide released from the atmosphere in a few days by this miniature plant is as efficiently as a one-hectare cornfield for a season.

Interesting, functional, concrete with German efficiency !!

However I did not find the final yield of the process, photovoltaic-electrolysis-giving H2 combined with CO2 to give methane CH4, used in a car with tank at 200 Bars, in my opinion a few% to compare to that of nature photosynthesis algae or forest, quite close, but very different in investment, nature doing this spontaneously ?????

In my opinion store concentrated solar heat at 300 ° C and above, underground (on a large volume of large solar thermal concentrating plant), to use 24h on 24 and 365 days a year, to make electricity, risk to have a much better return, (that of Carnot real 20 to 30%) with far fewer steps at poor performance.

Very frustrating.

What idea does the cost of a full LNG for the vehicle?
