Review of fuel taxation: the price of diesel higher than that of gasoline?

According to information in the Sud Presse daily newspapers, it appears that a higher tax than for gasoline could be applied to diesel. Thursday, the European Parliament must agree on a draft revision on the amendment of the taxation of fuels. The application of this measure could lead to an increase in the price of diesel.

Fuels are currently taxed on volume. In case of acceptance of the revision project, they will also be taxed on CO2 emissions, hence the taxation on diesel would be higher. The calculation of excise duties would then be based on the power factor and CO2 emissions. States should then respect the differences between the minimums of taxation so that the price of diesel would be constantly higher than that of gasoline. Finally, Sud Presse newspapers state that diesel consumption has decreased in 2011.

This would be an excellent decision, the health impact of diesel vehicles is no longer demonstrated.

Yep! A way like any other to renew the fleet ....

Only good news, the pollution should decrease .... once digested the enormous gray energy that will be squandered by renewing the park ... if they do not change the tune in 10 or 15 years to return to back .... : Cry:

Thank you for our lungs because gasoline does not give fine particles and very little NOx
And when will France follow the example of Belgium?
