Libé's article:
How Reagan trapped Soviet technology

Revelations of a former adviser to the American president.
by Pascal Riche
published on February 28, 2004 at 23:30 p.m.

Washington, from our correspondent.

In the early 80s, thanks to information provided by France, Ronald Reagan ordered an incredible operation to destabilize the USSR, which notably led to the explosion of a gas pipeline in the summer of 1982. is what Thomas C. Reed, former adviser to Reagan, reveals in a book to be published in the United States, At the Abyss: An Insider's History of the Cold War (ed. Ballantine Books), of which the Washington Post has published extracts .

Francophile engineer. In July 1981, in the castle of Montebello, near Ottawa, François Mitterrand took part in his first G7 summit. "During his meeting with Ronald Reagan, he had informed him that we had identified a vast Soviet spy network in the West," says Jacques Attali, his closest adviser. France had succeeded in obtaining the services of a 53-year-old engineer, the Francophile Colonel Vladimir Vetrov (nicknamed "Farewell" by the DST), who was at the heart of Directorate T, the KGB's economic espionage service set up in the 70's.

By immersing themselves in the 4 documents provided by Vetrov via France, the Americans discovered, dismayed, that the Soviets had infiltrated a number of Western laboratories and had access to extremely sensitive plans and software. The sequel was less known until then. Thanks to the discovery of these channels, the CIA decides to send false information to the Soviets. Especially almost perfect software, but containing undetectable errors.

Blast. One of these programs, designed to manage gas installations (pumps, turbines, valves, etc.), did its job perfectly: carefully trapped, it triggered excessive pressure, which led to the explosion of a Siberian pipeline , "the most monumental non-nuclear explosion ever seen from space", according to the author. The Soviets then began to suspect all of their facilities, "which was the whole purpose of the operation." An episode that only aggravated the general decay of the USSR, a few years from its collapse.

It was only a post scriptum, even with an "s" the message is intelligible... But unlike the mistakes we all make here and there, this one is almost systematic, so try to correct it.

Thanks for the spelling clarification! :P
Indeed, since "bar" is at the same time the name and the abbreviation of the unit, we can grant it or not...

"I inflate my tires to 2 kilos or 2 bars", you are all right : Mrgreen:

Fortunately "one supposedly doesn't know tangentially" who did it Image (eh-eh-eh)

This is no longer even hypothetical after watching the two videos, we now know that the signature of these attacks by the convergence of the indices, will relegate the USA to the rank of the most terrorist nation on the planet... (it has always been them who moreover have created a self-feeding concept in different forms)...

And after the calculated bombardment of the Zaporijia Power Plant, which was neither more nor less than the same strategy of hostage-taking the civilian populations... this new monstrosity, completed to make Russia pass from the status of aggressor to that of victim, (if we understand that it is obviously a Machiavellian war against Russia with various degrees of escalation premeditated by NATO the USA, of which it will be easy to establish the crescendo...)

Even if they won't say it openly, it becomes clear that the USA has become the absolute disgrace to all the states of the world!

It's blessed bread for “this dictatorship that is the USSR” to make it clear who the monster is, because it's a monster of madness
“Fortunately” the USA is there for ”save us from the Russians!”, Yes Fortunately"...

No, the responsibility of the USA remains a possibility but is not formally established. Incidentally, it's not because they are rotten that Russia is not at least as rotten (no pun intended).
