US energy report

by Christophe » 21/12/06, 17:29

In the USA, 4,5% of the world population mobilizes 22,5% of the planet's energy. However, this share is decreasing significantly due to the emergence of new major energy players on the world scene: it was 25% 10 years ago. The United States remains the largest energy consumer in the world in volume and per capita.

The United States gives priority to the diversification, the increase and the securing of the energy supply. Conversely, the discourse on demand reduction remains modest, while considerable savings can be envisaged without difficulty, particularly in the field of transport. This general note, which introduces a series of thematic reports, recapitulates the main characteristics and key figures of energy in the United States (fossil energies, renewable energies, electricity production). The main orientations of the American energy strategies are then described, as well as the initiatives launched on the international scene by the federal administration during the last five years.

The major figures for R&D in the energy sector are discussed and the possible consequences of the recent majority change in Congress are analyzed.
