Namibia: potential of over 2 billion barrels reported east of PEL 0094 permit

Agence Ecofin 265 January 2021

Namibia, home to Venus-1, one of the 2021 most important wells to watch in 0094, is considered to be one of the most interesting areas for oil exploration globally. A status that the country confirms with the improvement of the resources of the PEL XNUMX offshore block.

In an update released Tuesday, Global Petroleum, which operates the PEL 0094 exploration permit off Namibia, announced an increase in prospective resources east of the permit of 2,048 billion barrels of oil. This brings the site's total prospective risk-free resources to 2,929 billion barrels. The pre-existing prospects indeed housed resources estimated at 881 million barrels.

This update was carried out following the interpretation of 2D seismic data that the company recently authorized. The work revealed seven new tracks in this part of the block. They also lead to a reduction in the exploration risks of the Marula area of interest.

The new study has significantly boosted Global's confidence in the presence of bedrock and oil production at the site. Prospects are considered viable drill targets.

“As promised in December, we are happy to announce the identification of important new leads in the eastern part of PEL 0094 […]. Identifying potential resources on such a scale in new leads is obviously a big boost to the license's overall appeal and ability to be a major prospecting point, which is very timely as we begin. our farm out process, ”said Peter Hill, CEO of Global Petroleum.

Global, which is listed on ASX and AIM, owns and operates a 78% direct stake in PEL 0094.
