ITER when?

Oil, gas, coal, nuclear (PWR, EPR, hot fusion, ITER), gas and coal thermal power plants, cogeneration, tri-generation. Peakoil, depletion, economics, technologies and geopolitical strategies. Prices, pollution, economic and social costs ...

Nor is "molten salt" a final solution. Research is also in progress and will probably be completed before.

In the 1960s, research on molten salt reactors was primarily conducted by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, much of its work culminating in the "Molten Salt Reactor Experiment, MSRE". The MSRE was a 7,4 MW thermal test reactor, intended to simulate the neutron (in epithermal neutrons) of the core of an intrinsically safe thorium breeder reactor. The MSRE was critical in 1965 and worked four years.

Yes experimental reactor. Do you know of any reactors of this type in service?

No, but it's been developed for a long time. : Cheesy:
Since it was for the (stupid) nuclear plane project, it was abandoned ....
In the (uplifting) documentary "Thorium, the spoiled face of nuclear power", the engineers who worked on the monitoring of this reactor, declared that they were bored as they could not because there was never any incident.

conclusions
the molten salt program was initiated following the very demanding needs of the nuclear powered aircraft.
the AER is built and operated, it demonstrates the feasibility of the MSR concept.
After the abandonment of the military program, a civilian program is initiated.
The MSRE is built and operated.
Demonstration of the reliability and safety of an MSR first reactor to operate with the 233U.
Implementation of technological foundations for future MSR.

Finally, to break this pharaonic as useless project a little more, it is worth recalling this fact:
Cadarache is located on the Aix-en-Provence-Durance fault, the most active in France, and near another, that of Trévaresse, which generated the most serious earthquake ever recorded in France there is a century (1909, intensity 9).
So when you dare to write: "Your grandchildren will be very happy to take advantage of it, because it will prevent them from going scratching the earth to ensure their subsistence", besides the filthy idiocy of this sentence, I laugh because my little ones children are very likely to be wiped off the map because of this dung. I remind you that I live not even 20 kilometers as the crow flies from this time bomb.

What does this have to do with your link which is a project? Beware, Izy, you're getting completely spoiled!

It doesn't break anything. But then nothing at all.

1) How many concrete buildings have been destroyed on this fault since the concrete exists? Zero.
2) Iter is fusion, not fission, so no major risk in the event of an accident, such as a chain reaction

Two arguments which each invalidate the argument or rather the bias that all government projects are to be thrown in the trash, and therefore anything is advanced against the advice of engineers from the 35 countries that are in the project!

I missed you, Tryphon, you and your blind confidence in science and your gifts of clairvoyance. : roll:

The science I trust is that of physicists and engineers.
The one you trust is yours, science infused.
If you think you can make such childish arguments against those of the project leaders ... : Lol: : roll:

The problem is that you "forgot" that there are just next to Iter (a few hundred meters) several conventional reactors ... but of course, in the event of an accident, no risk. Is not it? : Mrgreen:

Renowned scientists are very numerous against Iter: Pierre-Gilles de Gennes and Matatoshi Koshiba, both Nobel Prize winners in physics (1991 and 2002). But also Claude Allègre * (former Minister of National Education), S. Balibar, Yves Pomeau, J. Treiner, R. Dautray (ex boss of the CEA).

ITER will be dangerous

The 2002 Nobel Prize for Physics, the Japanese Masatoshi Koshiba, explained as early as March 10, 2003 in a letter sent to Prime Minister Koizumi that "The ITER nuclear reactor, which burns tritium, is extremely dangerous from the point of view of safety and contamination of the environment. The 2 kg of tritium circulating in ITER could kill 2 million people. The radioactive flux of 2 kg of tritium is about the same level as that produced by the Chernobyl accident. "
