I didn't know that ONERA was updating counter-rotating propellers ...

It should be noted that the Russians, from the 50s, were among the most advanced on this subject, notably with the Antonov An22 which could (and still can) beat the pawn to many large "jet" carriers.

however, it appears that ONERA's approach is to include counter-rotating propellers in a sort of reactor ... while the Antonov is built around turboprop engines.
