Electric heating and uneconomical isolation

by jessle » 11/07/13, 00:02

Good evening

Directly concerned by each increase in the price of electricity because I warm with the fairy EDF.
I inquired at the energy and habitat of my city, two years ago to over-isolate the house.

1 To break thermal bridges and other construction errors from a thermal point of view.

2 In order to save electricity.

And I was clearly told that the project is not profitable.

According to you, are the specialists right?
Over-isolate is not profitable?
I run (heating, vmc and hot water) around 80kwh / m2 / year

Thank you for your answers

On isolating is never profitable! But isolate is always good !!

Thermal bridge hunting is not about insulation but about thermal optimization!

You are handyman, so do the work yourself because when we see the prices of some companies is enough to ask questions! A few days ago a member spoke about an estimate in interior insulation at 470 euros / m2 !!!

Otherwise 80 kwh all inclusive in Alsace is already not bad! While hunting bridges and improving a little attic at 6 7 R can hope to go down to 60 kwh, lower it seems difficult ...

You're right it's Christophe optimization.

It made me propose to pass gas but it will be in
20 000euros work, so I thought why not isolate.

20 000 euros? For a boiler has 2000 and ten radiator 300 euros and a short week to pull the hydraulic network? A little expensive paid no?

Have you calculated the profitability of this solution compared to insulation?

No
But by talking with neighbors they talk to me about all they have between 1000 and 1200 euros for heating gas, so I turn 1300 electricity euros annually, with any heating
light cooking etc .......
So for me to invest in the gas is not profitable.

I am in Provence and I just installed a reversible air conditioning I am delighted when it is 7 ° outside my machine consumes 400 w about for a surface of 45m2 in viron. Good is high-end but poorly insulated house (10cm polystyrene.)
We talk about it otherwise if you are in the countryside and on the ground wood is not bad.

I forgot the cop is 4.76 to 7 ° and 3.8 to -7 ° So you will consume about 3-4 times less! More "profitable" than over-insulation but it remains nuclear.

It remains nuclear AND the accentuation of consumer peaks.

Understand that the network and production facilities are calibrated to cope with the highest consumption, especially when such a short cold wave is installed.

And the amortization of these facilities, useless the rest of the time, we pay it all, all the time.

One of the measures in the pipeline is to charge a lot more for this "peak consumption", in my opinion with good reason because this marginal production costs the skin of the buttocks!

So, in fact, the PACs limit the peak consumption a little. But heating with electricity is the main reason why France imports electricity as soon as it is cold, especially from Germany. Expensive. While exporting in summer, when electricity is worthless. The balance in kWh is positive. In euro, I do not have it!

So I hope that the price of electricity peak will be reported integralemet on those who generates it, those who heat to electricity (indeed Joule or PÄC, whatever). There is no reason for others to pay for them.

I talked about PAC because it consumes much less than a convector and a gas boiler that could be a good solution if we produced our renewable electricity is what I do (solar power) with my annual solar 4300kwh I have enough electricity in the balance sheet to run my heat pump.

We agree a passive house is the best solution but must be expected from the outset. We do not know all the parameters of Jessie's house.
In terms of consumption peaks, steps should be built rather than gas plants.
