Hello
This is a debate that we have already discussed at length, but few people have checked.
An easy test to do with the PM 230 to find out if your supplier actually invoices you for Watt and not VA (volt ampere)

Take a washing machine motor or a small old generation ordinary motor and connect it through PM 230
The engine must turn light (no load) to examine the amperage, the voltage and cos phy which must be bad (engine without load)
check the wattage indicated, it is what your meter should normally charge you.
To check if it is real, cut everything in the house, no consumption detected by the meter and repeat the experience just with the engine plugged into PM230 and compared.

In my case although hydroquebec and all the specialists in the matter swear to me by the great gods that we pay only for watts, this is not what I measure! In my case I pay for the VAR
As most of the houses only have heating resistance consumption, so Watt and VAR are the same good cos nobody is interested,
Why do you think that electrical appliances or all new motors, particularly single phase, are sold under label
high energy motor, it is mainly because the cos is close to 1.
What is remarkable is that an old-generation single-phase assychronous motor (without Run capacitor) which runs without load draws an amperage at 75% of full load.
it is impossible for a 1/4 hp motor to consume autand without producing energy, the only losses are heating, friction of the ball bearings and a little in its ventilation!
And if, only watts were to be charged, why buy high energy motors we will not see the difference, on consumption.
It is the same for the welding stations when they are connected to vacuum very bad cos.
Obviously you are going to tell me for the few engines that we use over a short period that is not worth it.
But those who have a large motor heat pump system or a swimming pool whose pump is 1 hp and which works all summer, or a freezer which works permanently it is worth bringing the cos close to 1
