Reduce the power of a heating resistor of 3KW-220v

by fabio.gel » 27/12/12, 08:53

Hello

I bought a used Rotex electrical resistance of 3 Kw to put in my CESI.

For the moment I have a subscription of 3 Kw from where my problem.

Since I want to avoid increasing the power of my meter for an economic reason, I asked myself the question if through an assembly there are not possibilities to reduce the power of it?

Thank you for your answers, diagram or other ...

Fabio

Using a dimmer?

by fabio.gel » 27/12/12, 12:26

Can I use a dimmer of this type?

2000w max output and its works in 230 v

It will work (provided that the triac supports 3kW 30% of the time versus 2kW all the time) but it will parasitize your sector to death.

It would have been better to have a resistance of 1kW ...

what do you mean by parasite?

Hi BobFuck

What do you mean by parasitizing?

It is a dimmer, so the current will not be sinusoidal at all ... well if you do not have sensitive electronic equipment, why not!

You just have to replace the triac with a more powerful one or you can do this simple assembly:

You replace the BTA10-400B triac with a BTA16-600B to support the 3000 watts of your resistance.

there are simpler:
in general, water heater resistors are made up of several resistors in parallel. often 3
just unplug 1 or 2.

Good dimmers have a toroidal self-suppressor in series.

Another solution is a diode in series to reduce the power by half.
Be careful, you need strong: 400 V, 15 amps. and a suitable radiator.

A capacitor in parallel at the output does the job well for parasites.

I made several (color organ) these light systems that work with music and no problem of noise with an output condo, if we talk about a motor dimmer it's different and we don't use triacs but SCR or Mosfet to generate a pseudo pulse and there we must use a self, but it depends on the speed of oscillation because the most recent low power no longer uses a self but a single output condo.

The diode certainly decreases the power but not the maximum amperage and unbalancing the phase has no advantage, especially if you are on the network because the counter will record the maximum value of the full exploitation of the phase (sine).

Let me doubt. Or the problem will be the same with a dimmer. And if your counter does this, it is because it was placed by scammers.
