For Windows 10, 4 GB of RAM is fine, but it uses up the paging file (virtual memory on disk) to death.

It is only by going to a minimum of 8 GB that you can transfer the SWAP file, which increases the responsiveness of the PC but somewhat limits the use of applications that are very hungry in RAM (which said Chrome ? : Cheesy: ) such as watching a movie in 4k (lived experience, a few years ago when the GPU did not decode 4k well)

A few tens of € to avoid losing your data and spending many hours rebuilding your OS + all the installed applications + setting them up, I think it's really worth it!

And then the RAM is also used if you want to install VMs (virtual machine with another OS, like Android to run games on your PC) or a docker client (free under WIN 10) allowing for example to install licenses free of BDD, a WEB site, ... that we can start, stop or delete in 2 seconds!

On my machine I have 2 disks:

- a classic Momentus 1TB seagate from 2014
- a seagate Firecuda hybrid of 2TB SSHD from the end of 2018

The Firecuda is an HD with 128 MB of cache and 8 GB of SSD allocated to the most requested files (automatically eh) .... 8 GB is not much but apparently it is enough and it performs quite well!

HDsentinel only counts the W data since the software was installed, it is not a function saved on the hard disk like SMART.

On some discs it appears on the 1st page but not others ?? I don't know why ...

My 1st disk (system) is 17.1 TB read for 13.7 TB written since 15/10/18:

With today there is a difference of 963 days ... an average TBW flow of 13.7 / 936 = 15 GB per day (same day of non-operation: it still happens to me still ^^)

So 144 GB / day at izy is high as I thought!

We can therefore estimate that since the end of 2014, i.e. 2400 days, my hard drive has a TBW volume of 2400 * 15 = 35 TBW in 6 and a half years ... there is room before reaching 128, 256 or 512 TB!

ps: it is a pity that there is not the date of commissioning and the number of days when the disk was powered at least once, because that would allow the average usage to be calculated.

Not that much, I had it set to 0 at the start and only had a few rare Edge crashes, when multiple tabs were active simultaneously. A restart of Edge and it was off again. I turned it back on and the RAM is generally at 65% usage, so swap usage is rare.
I only have light programs and on Edge you can have 10 tabs open with no problem, older ones are put to sleep, probably erased from RAM.

Before I used Chrome, more practical in translation than firefox or Internet Explorer. Edge has made huge strides, I find and adopted it.

I bought it on May 20 and reinstalled everything the next day from a USB stick that contained Windows 10 downloaded from the internet, about 8 GB, then all my programs and updates, so a lot more disk writes the first days.

To answer your question: 5148 GB in 13 days, that's 396 GB / day
I will install hd sentinel free version to see.

Yes, I understand that installing an OS consumes more data than daily use ...

But 400 GB / day is huge ... In average speed you are at 5100/81 = 63 GB per hour! That is to say an average speed of 18 Mb / s permanently ... that's a lot ... : Shock:

To tell you: when I write this message the speed of my C: does not exceed 0.7 Mb / s ... and it is not on average ... the background noise is around 200 kb / s. ..

Are you sure that the counters were REALLY at 0?

Then you have to know how Crystal counts ???

Are you going to tell me Crystal only counts since its installation as HDS or does it manage to recover raw data since the first power-up of the disk?

You can't compare with an SSD

Which version of Crystal do you have? Me 8.12.1 that I just downloaded ...

I wonder if this is not a function only for SSDs (because important data for them?)?

b) The info of the number of starts is very different from HDS! 4000 VS 9000 ??? Oh yes, I'm stupid: HDS gives the start AND stops so it counts double (since 1 on = 1 off no?). 4919 * 2 = 9007 ah bin no it doesn't fit ... : Mrgreen:

I took the opportunity to test my Firecuda 2018 VS Momentus 2014 with CrystalDiskMark as it is the same brand it is even more interesting:

Funny the Firecuda is less good in Write on the random of small file whereas it is precisely there that the SSD should be better?

As it is an internal algo that manages the files to be moved in SSD I think that the benchmarks are not realistic in this case ... I will plug my MX500 ...

It crashed my PC and as it is written: CrystalDiskMark can shorten the life of SSD memory , I did not insist, but I had time to read the first line:
454, .. for reading and 366, .. for writing.
