OVH: fire in Strasbourg, datacenter destroyed. What consequences on the French internet?

I wonder what Bigard would think of it:

OVH March 9, 2021: let's go for an IPO.
OVH March 10, 2021: Strasbourg datacenter caught fire

Bin that then!

The consequences of this destruction go much further than the internet in fact, one example, among dozens of others that will fall in the coming days:

For those who take the bus in Charleville, you will have noticed that the TAC applications, as well as the validation of tickets no longer work.
This follows the fire of the OVH data centers which took place in Strasbourg.
However, it is still possible to take the bus since they are free until the problem is resolved.
Additional info: A data center is a place in which several data servers are gathered (in this case those belonging to the OVH host).
A server being in a way a "super" computer with generally a lot more RAM, a lot more storage ...
It was therefore in these servers that various data were stored, including the famous TAC ticket purchase application.
Depending on the different subscription formulas (and whether or not the backups have been performed), data loss will not be the same for all companies (or for all individuals) that hosted their data with OVH.
Here it was, it was the minute info of the day, with a little reminder on the need to save your data on different media (ex: on hard drive + in the cloud) because what happens here on a large scale, can also happen to you with your own computer

We can easily understand the lack of redundancy for small and medium sites ... But for companies which make millions of turnover it is less understandable !!

This accident (industrial disaster in fact) must absolutely change things ... the soft or hard destruction of a server, a server bay ... were known risks and taken into account ... complete destruction of a data center not at all AMHA! The proof !

Besides, has this only happened in the history of the Internet ??? Is France once again showing the example? : Mrgreen:

The Belgians are moaning about OVH ... Bastards of Francequillons!

And again from the high level of journalism:

In total, 3,6 million web servers linked to OVH were affected by this fire.

Still lost!

Friends of the Bonjoir Plot!

We can get closer to the datacenter than THAT: https://www.google.com/maps/@48.5849093 ... 384!8i8192

Yesterday evening it worked! OVH (or justice) would she have already requested changes from Google for the investigation ????? : Shock: : Shock: : Shock:

Not sure that OVH is recovering ... it will depend on possible legal consequences and responsibilities in the loss of data (if there are any) ...

Ah? Do they still use PCs, failing to know how to set up Belgian data centers?
: Lol:

Normally backups should never be left on the same sites as the originals, these are the basics of the business. It would be a serious professional fault to have done so, and there the legal consequences would be too.

The back-up was in another room, but in the same center! Unforgivable.

In any case they do not deceive the name, it was indeed hosting in "cloud" (of smoke).

You still missed an opportunity to keep quiet ... Google has chosen Belgium for one of its datacenters ... to my knowledge there is none in France ...

Frankly I do not know why: the highest labor cost in the EU, taxation in the clouds and overpriced electricity (double that of France at least for individuals) and quite highly carbonated ... Belgium really has it all. please!

But Google is smarter than you think ... There are surely good reasons for this choice!

Source?

There were 4 centers more or less stuck together (see Google Maps above) .... 1,5 were totally destroyed ...

I forecast 50% total loss ... (i.e. small and medium-sized sites without delocalized backup ...)
