Neon broken in my bathroom

by Nat41 » 04/12/22, 12:19

Hello, I bought an old house 3 years ago, and since yesterday the neon in my bathroom no longer lights up, it lights up intermittently and therefore I no longer want to use it, I think that must be at the end of its life.
Attached is a photo.

So I don't know how to replace it or what, after looking I think the best option would be a neon led, but I think that depending on the assembly of my current neon there are modifications to be made....?
Can you tell me more?
cordially

Hi and welcome here.

I installed neon led tubes on the same chassis as yours last year…you have to remove ballast and starter. It's quite complicated to do if you have no notions of electricity.

I showed how to do it here: electricity-electronics-computer/neon-crack-exploding-and-blows-the-circuit-breaker-t16556.html

The easiest way is to replace a neon-like led light… you can read this article:

You can replace with a led panel too, it's more design: https://www.silamp.fr/panneaux-led-c102x3175991

Or rulers: https://www.silamp.fr/PBSCProduct.asp?I ... cID=124801

The advantage is the very simple wiring.

I use these 2 models in addition to the neon lights it works well.

For 5-10 years when I work, we have replaced the neon lights with LED tubes, with the same chassis, hypermarket, 6-7000 m2, changed electronics, and tubes.

With so many, six days a week from 9 a.m. to 20 p.m., it pays for itself very quickly, not to mention that you don't have to change the neon lights every 18 months, for us.

But, if I were you, I would put something more "modern", and easier to change ....

Although this distinction is in great danger from now on being quickly forgotten, what is called here "neon" is actually a fluorescent tube and to speak of "LED neon" is even more inappropriate... In this matter, let us try to be clear! : Wink:

I think I guess Nath's question... Are there LED tubes with the exact size of a neon tube, and which would be fixed on existing equipment, instead of the old neon tube (and so , without having to do any electrical installation...)
I good?

I do not know if it exists but if so, it would be well to put a jumper at the level of the starter.

Manufacturers have indeed complied with the old standard on this point and produce LED tubes that adapt to traditional supports...

Ah well, it's going well.

Do you have a fridge or refrigerator? There is the question.

Once again, it reminds me of the weights and measures guy who came to inspect the scales, among other things, and complained that the head of the department had written, something like that, the kilo of oranges at €2, and which exploded at the end, telling me that he wanted to see the weights listed in kilograms.

I who believed that it was the masses, that we registered in kg....

You must have missed my project a year ago…see my answer above…
