Lighting: HVB oil

by Corpse Grinder 666 » 09/12/08, 19:34

Just a simple question for those who have tried the experiment before me (this will save me from screwing up the lamp if it does not work):
is there a way to transform an old oil lamp (storm type) into an oil lamp? :D
thank you ;-)

PS: I haven't looked too much, but how do you change the wick?

I'm not sure if it's the same type of wick ...
Besides, I even wonder if you need a wick for oil ...

Ask the cromagnons : Mrgreen:

:? I have already tried, but I got stuck, the wick ends up not bringing the oil anymore ....
I even tried with charcoal, after 5 hours, the charcoal becomes blocked ... and the fire goes out ...
These tests were done with recovered rapeseed oil ... :D

however when you make an oil lamp you need whatever happens a wick .... : roll:
the wick, normally for the same purpose as oil or oil, that the latter climb by capillarity in the wick in order to reach the flame: no?

It seems to me that we have already talked about it, but it concerned kerosene lamps not storm style (c koi by the way) ... https://www.econologie.com/forums/search.php

There are 2 main problems:
a) ignition
b) the smell

For the rest no problemo!

But it is that there are oil lamps with wick since Ami Argand and also Antoine Quinquet had developed oil lamps with wick.

On the other hand, given its small displacement by capillarity, the oil was in a tank located higher than the wick.

Here is the Roman lamp with wick.

Having bought a facsimile of it in Turkey, I used it to work with table oil and twine as a wick. : Mrgreen:
