End of free internet for all? Towards access to the map?

Hi-tech electronic and computer equipment and Internet. Better use of electricity, help with the work and specifications, equipment selection. Presentations fixtures and plans. Waves and electromagnetic pollution.

End of free internet for all? Towards access to the map?

by Christophe » 19/07/11, 09:54

The death of the internet is confirmed a little more in Brussels

The big bosses of telecoms gathered by Brussels to floor on the modes of financing of very high speed short-term in the European Union gave birth, not surprisingly, of a series of proposals which bury the neutrality of the net for the benefit of a access to several internets, more or less rich depending on the paid subscription. Proposals that break down the door already opened by the European Commission.

Remember. It was last March. Without much ado, the European Commission brought together in Brussels nearly forty big telecoms bosses: Steve Jobs (Apple), Xavier Niel (Free), Stéphane Richard (Orange), Jean-Phillipe Courtois (Microsoft), Jean-Bernard Lévy (Vivendi), Stephen Elop (Nokia), ..

The purpose of the meeting was to ask manufacturers how, in their opinion, "to best ensure the very high-level private sector investments necessary for the deployment of next-generation broadband networks to maintain the growth of the Internet". The Commission wishes to make possible the objective set by Europe's Digital Agenda, which provides for all Europeans to have access to the Internet at a minimum of 30 Mbps by 2020, and at least half of them to 100 Mbps.

To develop the proposals, a composed steering group was appointed, made up of Jean-Bernard Lévy of Vivendi, Ben Verwaayen of Alcatel-Lucent, and René Obermann of Deutsche Telekom. "Proof that, right from the composition of the group, there is the will to find a balance between the funding of networks and the funding of content, which is never a very good sign for net neutrality", we then felt.

The result is even worse than our fears of the time, and confirms the trend expressed by the European Commission last month, when it said it wanted to favor the free market in defense of net neutrality.

Example of what an "à la carte" internet could be, the only free thing is social networks ... a curious conception of "freedom" : Cheesy:

I think numerama's comments are self-sufficient

still decisions which are initiated by "manufacturers" and validated by people not competent in the field concerned

it is the history of France

broadband at 100 mega is useless (except for the pros)

if it is to meet deadlines at con 2020 I will be happy with 2050

Not too much agree! It depends on the skill sought, in this case if it's making money and controlling the internet ... the skill is there ...

:| :|

Otherwise yes compared to our vision of things, they are zero ...

ps: and all the other sites like econology? Will they be accessible?

For me politicians vote a law from an advertising brochure
I do not agree they are incompetent in the field and irresponsible on the medium and long term vision.

they are supposed to be at the service of the people and not theirs and neither that of the lobby

If the internet becomes chargeable with each click, if not slow like the minitel, I would never use it again, as I hardly buy any DVD of film, or CD of song, neither more nor less than I pirate, (hadopi does not change my paid consumption for me, especially since I do not like movies with hidden drm which do not help to read them honestly) !!
If people were like me, lobbies should change their methods entirely !!

The only solution, pay nothing unjustified, by everyone, so the manufacturers who trap, scam and exploit will have to change !!

Yes and conversely a (small to medium) site costs to maintain!

Since the start of econologie.com I have always chosen self-financing (therefore compulsory advertising ...) rather than paying registration (others do ...) or worse other "obscure" means of financing "(spam, marketing of email addresses for example ...) ...

Publicity is profitability and profitability is independence as Edwy Plenel of Mediapart would say (even if they decided the paid way ... and it works!)!

So, notice to the regulars of forums: remember to visit the shop from time to time: https://www.econologie.com/shop/
: Idea: :D
