Motorization of a boat with electricity

by zac » 01/11/06, 21:39

Hello

I'm looking for pipes from our electric motor pros.

data: 30 to 40hp

12 or 24v

0 to 800 rpm in both directions

usable as engine et generator

max diameter 40cm

that's all, is it doable?
with what stuff?
and price range with regulation it would be great : Lol:

please

Hello,

I have the same project but I don't know how to achieve it, at least with the equipment I have and which comes from the initial motorization of the boat: a 6 hp petrol engine (Couach BD1) that I fired because that he was HS, but who was equipped with a fully functional dynastart. The dynastart served as both a starter and a dynamo to recharge the battery. I would use the dynastart to turn the propeller out of the port, and as soon as I hoisted the sails, the dynastart would recharge the battery ....
Main problem, I am not sure that the dynastart will be powerful enough to move the boat. Can an electrician tell me how to calculate or measure the power of an electric motor?

There are many solutions for all types of boats.

Luxury sailboats: the CNB company had in its catalog an electric version of a luxury sailboat whose main advantages are; use of batteries as ballast to be positioned in strategic places. Electric motor (s) mounted on submerged and orientable pods allowing to crenate better than in a car and ensuring the cooling of the motor. removal of the shaft line and the many inconveniences it causes (vibrations, noise, space occupied, leaks, etc.). Possibility of using the motors to recharge the batteries. Improvement of navigation conditions in heavy weather, very rough seas (the motors are used to climb on the wave and when you "surf" on it you recharge the batteries ...

Tourist boats: various companies like MWLINE manufacture electric AND solar boats which, at the quay are connected to the network and, once recharged, resell the surplus produced. these are extremely interesting for their users, because their annual energy balance is positive!
Yes, you read correctly, instead of costing fuel, they bring in sold electricity and in addition they carry passengers (paying preferably).

I recommend among other things the site AFBE(French association for the electric boat).

There is a lot to read on the subject on the web, at your keyboards ... :D
