NiMh battery running-in: increase life and real capacity

Interesting information found on: http://www.ni-cd.net/accusphp/faq/index.php#roder

How and why 'Break in' a NiMH battery?

The goal is to break in the chemistry to then allow fast charges of good quality and good discharge characteristics.

The procedure is to cycle the battery several times increasing the charge and discharge current as you go.
This technique was developed by M Guindeuil.
- You must start with 2 or 3 charge cycles at In / 20 (24 h) and discharges at In / 4
- 2 or 3 cycles Charge at In / 10 (14h) Discharge at In / 2
from there it is absolutely necessary to use an automatic end of charge detection system (-dV / dt, Delta Peak) or else to monitor the end of the charge very closely ... Otherwise, beware of the destruction of the elements.
- 2 or 3 cycles Charge at In / 5 Discharge at In
- 2 or 3 cycles Charge at In / 2,6 Discharge at 1,25 In
- 2 or 3 cycles Charge at In / 1,6 Discharge at 1,85 In
- 2 or 3 cycles Charge at In Discharge at 3 In
Here are your elements are ready to fire ......
Attention (from a radiomodelling source), to keep the benefit of this break-in, it is necessary to continue charging the batteries in rapid charge (In) at all the following charges ...

you need a particular charger / unloader to be able to perform these cycles am I wrong?

Ah yes toutafé you need a "pro" charger. It is in the 200 € at least.

For the load a constant intensity laboratory power supply may be suitable.
