Indeed a switch plugs into the sector with a small transformer.
But as often it is a 5V power supply requiring as little power as possible, it may have to be possible to transplant on the + 5V of a USB socket in the box.

well yes but IT is like that ...

the ethernet network is not a bus where several devices are connected in parallel

ethernet this is only a link between 2 things: you need a switch in the center to make everyone communicate

and the switch only works when it is powered

the old switch were real central heating ... today it consumes much less, and it would not be that the consumption is proportional to the activity ... therefore low consumption when it does not communicate

in any case the other means are worse WIFI or CPL require more power

the old switch had specific 12v power supply or other bastard voltage

recent switches are often powered by 5V with usb socket ... which is a sign of reduction in consumption

I do the same thing right now, the cpl is not possible in three phase.

"Formerly", there were "bus" versions on coaxial cable (the most widespread being the 10BASE2), but they disappeared for reasons of infrastructure cost.

Ah ah ah the famous BNC coaxial of our first LAN on Duke Nukem 3D and Quake 1 :) (1996-1998)

It was so full of false contacts or other problem (compared to the RJ45) that when we installed the machines before noon, generally the network did not work well before 16pm! Horrible!

If a pc was messing around it made the whole network crash it seems to me ...

ps: if you need network gear, think, if you are not yet equipped, at your store forum prefer RJ45 network Thank you ! Here we are going to add a switch!

for those who are afraid of electricity consumption it is better to settle for a 10/100 switch

the 1Giga necessarily consumes more ... and is not used for much if the devices at the other end are not 1Giga either

on the other hand it is quite logical to pass in the wall of the cables good for this gigabit ... there will only be the switch to change when it will be useful

Better a thrifty 1 Giga than an expensive 100 Mega ...
There are 1Giga 5 ports consuming 4 Watts ...

4w ca would make 800mA in 5V so too much for a usb socket

I think that the small 5 port switch on USB plug consume much less

but it is rarely specified on the packaging ... it is necessary to measure after buying

I hope it will be clearly specified in the econology shop!

it is also possible that a good gigabit switch has a variable consumption with the flow and low at rest ... to be specified also on a good econological sales site

but difficult to measure clearly because it also depends on software ... there is so much windaube who spends his time occupying the network to say nothing
