Ecological computer and French!

And here is a PC from recycling.

Often singled out, the IT sector does not always rhyme with ecological, with its many materials shipped to developing countries for recycling which sometimes leaves much to be desired!

A French company, Ashelvea, has the good idea to develop and market an ecological computer.

A computer made up of corn, sweet potato, wheat, sugar cane, castor oil:

No, you are not dreaming, it is not about the ingredients needed for the last cooking recipe to make a cake, but rather about the components to make bioplastics that the Ashelvea company uses to produce its computers!

Not only do bioplastics replace traditional plastics (made from petroleum, so this preserves oil reserves), but in addition, the plants that were used to manufacture bioplastic absorbed CO2 during their growth.

In this regard, Ashelvea has a transparent policy on its components, such as the steel frames of computers manufactured by a work assistance center, based in Rodez, which uses recycled steel. Do not hesitate to consult the Ashelvea site for all the details on its commitments.

Ashelvea offers computers, on estimate, or already configured as the Evolutis VB04 model available at 650 Euros HT (several colors available). For this price, you will not have the ultimate in current technology, but a computer intended for office automation, multimedia and the Internet.

Find this computer on http://www.ashelvea.com

Not to mention that IBM / Lenovo is releasing a ThinkPad (L series) whose plastics come from recycled bottles. These plastics represent 18% of the weight of the machine anyway (1/6 of the mass).

... but in addition, the plants that were used to make the bioplastic absorbed CO2 during their growth

and mobilized agricultural land thus withdrawn from human consumption ...

Admittedly, at the scale of a single object this is not dramatic, but if we think of all the projects currently being concocted on biomass and the gigantism of industrial appetites, there is something to be really worried about.

weird ...

the main of a computer is the noble matter: silicon, copper, aluminum

that the plastic material that makes the case is made from agricultural plastoc is not a big ecological progress

worse if this plastoc which makes the dressing is too biodegradable it will limit the lifespan of the assembly, and make the assembly go to waste too quickly

the computer I am using today is from 1998 and seeing how it is made it will last a long time!

the noble pieces of a computer have value: it is essential to dress them with materials that are as durable as possible!

the problem of the ecology of computers is not in the computer but in the software: the anti-ecological is micromou which succeeds in making everyone believe that the old computers are good for nothing because they are not powerful enough for the latest software

yet the old software already did what I needed: newer software that does nothing more but forces me to have a newer machine is a waste!
