Well i'm going
After several years of evaluating the number of kilometers traveled per year I launch this debate today
my best year was 4000 km by car and 5000 by bike
now my location has changed and i live as a couple
the choice of place of residence / public transport was essential
2007 results:
car 10 for a couple (000 ° / 40 in Urban and 0 ° / 60 in long journeys)
Joint transpots to go to work every day
Bikes for proximity races
Bike + Trains holiday trips (hikes)
now a new constraint related to the care of our baby
will force me to use a small 125 (2,5 l / 100kms)
I exclude in this debate the observation of the use of the car for journeys of less than 5 kilometers (to be described) as well as the type of vehicle.
Thank you for your participation
Your tips for less rolling
Super
The nanny only lives 10 minutes away on foot, yesterday I invested in a bicycle trailer which also looks like a stroller with a removable third wheel (they call it "jogger") and the nanny accepts that I leave it to her at her place
consumption balance:
I will be able to manage to continue taking the train in the morning which makes me about 7 km less to drive in 500 or about 125 liters of petrol which will not pollute
YES

Management, my dear! Management!
But still:
Call more to drive less!
Lists, lists, more lists: when your weekly menus are programmed: you buy less and you forget less. Plan a stock budget. A little surge consumes less than a car (my wife always makes her simmered dishes in double quantity, the Bolognese sauce in quadruple)
Get into the habit of automatically reassorting small supplies (spices, condiments, milk, coffee, etc.) as soon as they are missing.
You can block 150 to 250 euros but they are not lost
Having a city map, a map and a phone book in the car can save money.
Don't go to hell to save 20 cents
Combining return from work and shopping
Spend 10 minutes after supper to program it all (= dinner in France)
In your diary, create pages for your usual suppliers where you write down what you need at ...... When you pass in front, hop!
When I went to a supplier, I called my partner to see if he was not thinking of anything missing. Excellent for the home atmosphere, too.
Road eaters:
Video club (we gave up, ultimately DVD post costs us a lot less)
Forgetting about common products: fresh cream, onions
Go home for lunch or go get fries 5 km away: take your sandwiches, a double source of savings (in a reusable box, of course)
For baby products: store
There is an age when children are happy to take the bus to school
Refuel when you have the opportunity: it avoids running 10 km to pay less for gasoline
A thing:
tell yourself that if the road costs of civil servants and employees are reimbursed at 25 cents / km, it is not just petrol
A phone call to Madame: 30 cents; a 4 km AR: 1 euro
Personally, I changed my job, I found a job 100 km from my home. Although it goes much faster than entering Brussels, I stay there on weekdays, finally I have a lot more time for my leisure. And in the morning I arrive early, smiling, which my colleagues appreciate.

Finally and overall it makes you how many kms rolled all this before et after Organisation :?:
What are your improvement goals and how to get there
We have also long adopted the standard "basic" list.
and we check in our reserve next to recipe books, the vegetable garden etc ...
Now how can we do better or at least pollute there is the challenge
