If the name must depend on the age of using water, here is our Champion.
It would be like a posthumous tribute.

lauvergnat wrote:just another little clarification. from memory the first engine having used the water supply is the Hugon engine which dates from 1861. knowing that the first gas engine used industrially is the lenoir engine and dates 1860.

the engine has gaston in video
it's fun as it works, and easier to do than stirling
on googgle there are plenty in the name of: "vacuum engine" and "miss engine"

Hello Elephant
If I understood the principle correctly, the "pschit" is the exhaust when the piston approaches TDC and the valve opens in front of the flame. The piston transfers the cooled air into the cylinder to prepare to suck the hot air for the descent.
For at least 1 of the engines seen in video, it looks like it has an engine time then 2 or 3 turns in freewheel or the crankshaft slowed down a lot then again 1 engine time.
Maybe a way to "slow down" when you have no means of adjustment on the suction of the flame?
There is even an engine that seems to "start" without ever being able to make a full revolution of the crankshaft by doing almost half a turn forward and back. The videos are not of very good quality it is difficult to judge.

hello, me what I think seeing that on the hit and miss engine we see a spark plug, I think it's a kind of ancestor of a combustion engine.
on the other hand the vacuum engine or flame licker engine in video is there
