"The steam car
If we superficially consider only the laws of thermodynamics, an interesting possibility would be the injection of a small quantity of water, of the order of 10%, in order to improve the efficiency of an internal combustion engine. The typical cycle is the injection of fine droplets after compression and heating of the air by the turbo, which cools it by evaporation and increases its density on admission, and therefore that of oxygen. During the combustion of the hydrocarbon, additional steam is generated. In the end, the expansion phase is amplified by the additional release of the heat initially "stolen" to the turbo, during its subsequent condensation at the end of the cycle. The water is also usable in the form of an emulsion with the fuel, which poses a problem of stability. The improvement of the yield would be of the order of 10%. But Rudolf Gunnermann powered his engines with an emulsion containing up to 50% water with an improvement of 27% of the yield. Its system required a nickel ring around the candles, which was therefore subjected to a significant electrical polarization, which also had the effect of "cracking", that is to say to break and hydrogenate the heavy hydrocarbons in presence of steam. This is the principle of "super-carburettors" that increase the octane content of volatilized fuel in the presence of water vapor and a catalyst, which substantially increases engine efficiency by replacing the progressive, highly inefficient and partial combustion of various hydrocarbon mixtures with vaporization points different, by the detonation of light and volatile hydrocarbons. The actual efficiency of combustion engines, sometimes close to 7%, would be multiplied beyond 26%. From this point of view, LPG or its mixture with hydrogen has a similar result.
The first "super-carburettor" was that of Charles N. Pogue, patented in 1930 and successfully tested by Ford, but that the oil companies hastened to render inoperative by adding lead to gasoline the year after, so as to poison the catalyst. Generations of city dwellers have been poisoned by this heavy metal for the benefit of tax administrations and tankers. In his memoirs, General Rommel attributed the Allied victory in Africa to a top secret American steam carburetor. Rommel's plan was to retreat into the wilderness by taking turns visiting his secret fuel depots. When the Americans were dry, he would attack. It didn't and they caught up with him at his third stopover. John Pogue, Charles's brother publicly revealed that he helped install the famous carburetor in the Jeeps and armored vehicles that were used. Numerous testimonials from mechanics confirm this. Unlike the average citizen, the army had no difficulty in obtaining unleaded fuel. However, chemical detonation alone is not enough to explain the extreme reductions in fuel consumption of some "super-fuel" or hydrogen cars, or the fact that their engines remain cold. "
Will anyone know more about this super-carburettor catalyst of the last great war? André maybe, since you are neighbor with the US. Or who would have kept in his barn a jeep US (or p'têt a tank) of the last war with this super carb ???
Interesting this history of lead in gasoline, right?

This topic has been changed and put this topic in Post-it to talk about exclusively from Pogue carburetor. I will feed the subject with the docs I have ...

Brief analysis:
The Pogue carburetor was probably the 1er embedded reformer in history ... when we know the mediocre quality of gasoline of the time (octane to 80 maximum) we understand better the assets that brought reforming (a reformed gas, more simple, has, except exception, an octane higher than the original compound ...) on the autonomy of vehicles ...
ps: I moved the subject to the section "Improved combustion"

and then, this carb, it should work with the current eurosuper 95, right?

No, because lead has been replaced by benzene ...
