Yahoo's good initiative concerning the promotion of compact fluorescent light bulbs: a map in (almost) real time of USA
When we know that 80% of electrical energy is coal in the USA ... all means are good to save kwh.
Indeed; a kwh from the saved coal is almost 1 kilogram of CO2 (1 kg of "good" coal "contains" 8kwh thermal or 4kwh electric in the best case and 1 kg of coal (assuming it is pure carbon) emits 3,6 kg of CO2)!

That's the question I asked myself. How are these numbers obtained? In any case it's not bad this thing, should be the same for France.
By the way do you know that in Europe the use of compact fluorescent light bulbs will be obligatory for households from 2009?

This type of ban is in the making all over the world as the precise this article from Futura-Sciences .
This same article confirms Polo's news regarding the ban on incandescent bulbs in Europe by 2009

Ah voui, I had read that on australia but I do not see anything about europe:
I still fear that this measure spreads on the market of low-end fluo bulbs to 2 € piece of piece (see less) ... we talked about it yesterday or before yesterday in another subject ...
I remind you that we have some nice models of fluo bulb that will hold much longer than in 2009: economic and LED bulbs
While several provinces in Canada are preparing a similar project, Europe, pushed by Britain whose finance minister Gordon Brown recently announced a ban on bulbs too greedy, but especially Germany, is considering the same type of regulation on the horizon 2009.

Yes I read that in the 179 number of Solar systems. I will not write you the whole article but in short: 2005: Cuba (followed by Venezuela) launches a plan to replace the bulbs. Australia will ban incandescent bulbs in 2010, followed by California (saying I did not care about the gaunt of the Americans who elected actors while he is a great senator this type!) And Canada (for 2012). THE ENVISAGE committee, and it is a wise wish, to ban the vicious bulbs for 2008 for the public (street + office) and in 2009 it will be the turn of households.
here is my source.
