ADEME has published advice which must be brought up to date given the corona crisis ....

I am very skeptical of the CO2 equivalent calculations of internet use: a datacenter hosted in France does not produce CO2 once it is built since it is powered by nuke. For us, the FB datacenter is in Ireland and runs largely on wind.

The servers are very polluting to produce. But whether we use them or not, CO2 emissions have been made.
And if we used ASICS (specialized circuits) for streaming instead of using processors, we would gain gray energy.

We will not go back to the time of the caves. It is up to the digital industry to optimize its footprint. But for that it would be necessary to put back the carbon tax for them, otherwise as long as the CO2 is free why bother.

I am also quite skeptical about certain figures but also about certain recommended methods ... although I still shared this info ... We are here to discuss!

Before optimizing your e-mail, the best is to start working as much as possible on laptop or tablet * ... something I have been doing since 2010! My last desktop dates from 2008!

A laptop consumes 3 to 4 times less than a desktop ... and a tablet tens of times less !!

However in businesses it is still mainly the desktop which is used! The advantage can businesses is twofold because their air conditioning consumption is often high !!!

Besides that, consumption of 4G or WiFi seems very ridiculous!

* there are also the so-called "micro PC" boxes! Their power supply is 5W to 10W (excluding screen)! Not seen this technology in the ADEME report : Cheesy: In fact at the technology level they are almost tablets without a screen ... We find 50 € (without screen) once with a WIN10 installed!

I found a document from the end of 2018 which is much more complete than the 2 docs of the ADEME in the framework of The Shift Project

Hello everybody
I'm writing an end-of-study thesis on the impact of digital on ecology, if you have 5min to answer my questionnaire, that would be of great help!
Thank you in advance :)

it's burning hot in California: the smoke cloud 1735 km long : Shock:

Dozens of fires ravage California, state of emergency declared
Thousands of people had to be evacuated around San Francisco. In the grip of a historic heat wave, California has already seen at least 48 hectares go up in smoke.

Fire starts are due to dry storms (due to the extreme heat):

Yes. I can see it very well in the gulf where I live. Incredible that the explanation comes from so far!

Should we talk about the Siberian blaze again? ... no ... finally, that's enough ...
