Asperatus cloud, a new type of cloud?

It really looks like a mixture of Photoshop and 3D studio ... but apparently it's not intoxicating!

What do the pilots think?

It reminds me (a little) of the observation of a circular cloud that I made in 2007: https://www.econologie.com/forums/un-nuage-c ... t4367.html

: Shock: It is quite impressive.

These aerological manifestations allow us to visualize air currents in the same way that we visualize aerodynamic flows in a wind tunnel.

The most curious (and the most disturbing) from my point of view are the "waves" which are representative of atmospheric shock waves ...
If we can see such phenomena near the eye of a cyclone, apart from this case, this kind of manifestation raises many questions ...

you know, fluid mechanics has not yet revealed all the curiosities that its nonlinear equations can generate ...

To this are added on Earth effects of Coriolis and ancestry with the heat of the ground ... cloud / solar radiation / terrestrial radiation couplings ...

And that is why we are wandering in the most total unknown as to the consequences of global warming, even 1 or 2 ° C. :?

In any case, I had the right to this kind of demonstration here, in the north of France!

It looks a lot like the 2nd photo, with some "waves"!
Her surprised me very much since I had never seen her before: even people from my commune took photos. It was last summer.
I must still have photos lying around ...

Watching the video, I was struck by the resemblance of the phenomenon to the beautiful underwater surf images.

Same effect, maybe same cause? (oscillating interface between two fluids)

Anyone have an explanation of why and how?

Good evening observers from the sky

The first photo is very impressive, but New Zealand is renowned for its special aerology, notably for gliding. The relief on the islands offers a real springboard for wave currents and the photo was probably taken one day or this phenomenon is combined with the arrival of a mass of humid air at altitude.
The second photo is a little more classic, although very representative of a friction phenomenon between a relatively stable mass of dry air in the low layer and a mass of moist air circulating rapidly above.
The allusion to underwater images is quite judicious because one really has the impression of looking at the surface of the water from below.
The 2 air masses do not mix, just like the water, denser at the bottom and the air above.
I am attaching a photo that I took, not much related to the above phenomena but showing the amplifying effect of the light

A+

Image Thank you Looping!

Surprising that this type of cloud was not named earlier.
Or it is that we observe it more often lately ... one more clue that the "Earth machine" is going out of order ...

This photo seems strange to me at the level of the buildings ... It is 5 minutes 36 s from the video ...

Ah, it's not 3D Studio, it's Photoshop : Mrgreen:

It looks like a drawing or a painting in fact ...
