Please sign and share. It might be unreal what I'm trying to do, but it doesn't hurt to try. Don't be fatalistic

the problem to cultivate these algae in industrial quantity which replaces bitumen would not be that it takes industrial quantity of CO2?

Hello,

Eric Dupont wrote:while it would be enough to make paving stones based on algae financed by a carbon tax and (de) posed by yellow vests.

I also think law enforcement would greatly appreciate being ducked with such paving stones. In addition if they are fresh, what a delicious smell of iodine ... We are living in a wonderful time

It's not what's missing, CO2, it seems to me.

yes, but I had seen a study, for algae to reproduce quickly they needed pure C0 2 ... if that's it, just reopen a coal-fired power station and grow the algae in the chimney.

A small calculation of order of magnitudes:
- 32 tonnes of bitumen are spread in France per year (000 figures), including 000 tonnes of hot mix,
- the ton of bitumen emits 55 kg of CO2 (figure given by COLAS via Adème - therefore caution)
- a good part comes from its recycling,
- so that's 1,76 million tonnes of CO2 / year
A car that travels 12000 km per emits 2,16 T of CO2 (6 liters per 100 and 3 kg of CO2 per liter - I do not count the 20% more for extraction and refining)
that makes 815 cars. It's not that huge given the size of the French car fleet.

On the other hand, 55 kg of CO2 per tonne is not a lot. It is therefore necessary to bring the asphalt from not far, otherwise the transport weighs down the balance sheet. Moreover, the Ademe indicates that transport represents between 10% and 30% of the CO2 balance. So if we transport algae from one end of France to the other, we have it all.

The idea is good, but you have to be sure that you have all the ingredients there (say within 50-100 km).

What if we made the same revolution in transport ??? With hydrogen more than electricity?

Or again micro algae? I saw a news story last year just before the pandemic. Since, unfortunately, nothing ...

No, you're mixing numbers between bitumen and asphalt.
According to the profession, the annual production of bitumen in Europe is 15Mt / year, of which around 11Mt for road uses.
