Measuring means which have changed several times and which lacked reliability at certain times. Obvious, but the question always comes up
We do not measure the temperature of the Earth, we estimate it from individual measurements made in reference stations (around 4.000) distributed in a very heterogeneous manner. In particular, there are only a few measurement stations in unpopulated regions like the Arctic and Antarctica or in the middle of the ocean. On the oceans, we have measurements made by ships and, more recently, measurements made by satellites or scientific buoys. A first well-known bias concerns the data from the end of the Second World War: the measurement method consisted in throwing a bucket into the sea, lifting it up and immersing a thermometer in it. It was not that simple and it took a little time.

At the end of the war, a standardized container was used which was above all better insulated, the result was a systematic bias in temperatures varying according to season and location. Later, the water used to cool the machines was collected, resulting in a new bias. Later still, we started to use the Argo buoys which had the advantage of being much better distributed but this resulted in a new systematic shift. As for satellites, they measure the temperature of the skin of the ocean (the very first micrometers) and these temperatures are systematically colder than those given by other methods.

The new dataset corrects these biases, at least partially. This resulted in slightly lower ocean temperatures in the years before the Argo buoys, so this helped to change the temperature trend since the past few years had not changed significantly.

Temperatures rise but there are variations
We also know that temperatures have risen much faster in the Arctic than in the rest of the planet. However, there are practically no measurement stations in the Arctic and the practice was to act as if the Arctic was evolving like the rest of the globe or else to simply delete this region. Already last year, Cowtan and Way had shown that taking into account the faster evolution of the Arctic, 30 to 40% of the hiatus disappeared.

There is therefore nothing surprising in these latest results. If we examine the evolution of temperatures over time, there has been no pause in recent years and temperatures are increasing at an average rate of 0,16 to 0,17 ° C per decade.

But this is an average and, from year to year and even from decade to decade, there are significant variations in this rate. These variations are typical of the behavior of the climate system. They result from the interactions between the ocean and the atmosphere and they constitute a very important research subject. https://www.futura-sciences.com/planete ... use-58544/

Bullshit from home bullshit ... SO2 turns into sulfuric acid, it almost destroyed the black forest, it contributes to the acidification of the oceans, while it reduces "a tad" the greenhouse effect. cease completely !!! (And the other is quite happy with his "find" ... it looks like Blédina ...) : roll: :(

and all that; we suffer from it which does not improve the situation. Besides SO2 shows that we are twice as strong ... 8)

As a reminder, I am Alsatian ... so I briefly experienced the acid rain in the Vosges in the 80s or the very beginning of the 90s.

But you are telling the obvious here my dear Guy because any greenhouse gas has a limited lifespan!

But before "liquefying" (and 100% does not I presume otherwise the IPCC would not talk about it), the SO2 remains in the atmosphere and it has an anti-warming effect ...

Permanently injecting SO2 (SOx?) Limits the effects of global warming ... and therefore large freighters, ships and liners that use heavy fuel oil or other fuel that is not desulfurized contribute to limiting the greenhouse effect!

TEMPORARILY of course ...

Saint-Nazaire: The biggest liner in the world leaves for its first sea trials
The giant of the seas began its maneuvers to leave its construction site around 16 p.m. this Friday

Frédéric Brenon Published on 20/08/21

The sea trips of the mastodons built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique are usually followed by thousands of curious on the coast. Swollen by summer visitors, the crowd was gathered again this Friday afternoon to witness the departure of the Wonder of the seas. The spectacle was guaranteed since the latest addition to the Saint-Nazaire shipyards is the largest liner in the world. Its maneuver, using tugs, to leave its construction basin and the Loire estuary began around 16 p.m.

Commissioned by the American company Royal Carribean, the boat is 362 m long and 64 m wide. It is a little more than its twin brother the Symphony of the seas, holder of the previous record, also built in Loire-Atlantique in 2018.

With 18 decks, 2867 cabins (and four swimming pools!), The giant will be able to take more than 9.000 people on board, including 2.300 crew members.

Numerous tests during four days
Under construction for a year and a half, the Wonder of the seas sets sail for the first time on the ocean. The navigation will not be a part of pleasure since it will be used to test the performance of the boat and its tools. His return to Saint-Nazaire is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The following months will be devoted to finishing and installing service equipment. The official delivery of the ship will not take place until early 2022. It has been postponed by six months, at the request of the shipowner, due to a cruise market severely affected by the health crisis. The home port of the Wonder of the seas will be Shanghai (China).

with 362 m / 6800 passengers he beats the previous record of Symphony_of_the_Seas which was 361.0 m / 6680 passengers maximum

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonder_of_the_Seas

These monsters cost over 1 billion Euro!

Note:
(Wonder_of_the_Seas) Theoretical fuel consumption is estimated at around 3,7 l per 100 km and per person, or a total consumption of around 270 tonnes per day of 24-hour cruising at 22 knots.

I do not understand this reasoning well?

Freighters also emit a lot of CO2 ...
