Why is it round and not square a watermelon?

by agriculturegaia » 10/01/09, 23:31

All large and heavy fruit plants are naturally supported by the soil.

When the watermelon grows, the plant develops less energy to make the round fruit grow (less contact with the ground limiting the friction of the fruit on the ground and limiting rot) than if this fruit were square!Image
You will notice that round is not exact, the forms are often oval or even flattened at the level of the poles .. like the pumpkin which no longer needs to grow at the time of maturation corresponding to full sun and therefore soil moisture much lower allowing the plant to focus its energy only on maturation.

For tubers, there will be a support net inside the bamboo and for heavy fruits there will be a support net outside the bamboo. Until anti-gravity is invented! ih! ih! ih! and three small suspension points!

It is true that breaking the barriers between science and philosophy, for example, gives surprising effects. MAIS

Philippe Steiner said
: "it is necessary and useful to bring together the economic and sociological theories so as to provide the best explanations of the economic facts that neither of these two types of knowledge do when they are implemented. 'in an isolated or worse contradictory manner ".

After Michel Wieviorka
:

"Huge transformations are changing the planet, and the tools available to think about these phenomena are evolving at high speed. In a few years, my generation of social scientists have experienced the collapse of functionalism, the triumph, then the decline of structuralism, the apogee, then the weakening of Marxism, the successes of symbolic interactionism, the rise in power of various variants of methodological individualism, the return of the subject of the Subject, etc. There is not a crisis here, but a mutation in our ways of thinking and approaching a changing world. This mutation concerns all disciplines of knowledge, and not only the social sciences, but these are at the forefront, and called upon to play a central role. "

In "Nine lessons in sociology", the author highlights the most promising analytical tools which are used to deal with phenomena: social movements, diversity, memory, violence, terrorism and even racism.
