Thank you for warning ... ah the clever ones ... pffff ...
End defender of Skype at the beginning (I had all the possible subscriptions) I go back a lot ... because the cost, tantalizing on paper, quickly turns out to be more expensive than expected ...
In the end, a good telephone subscription is "better" than the 10 € of skype credit ...
Then the heaviness of the latest versions too ... blah blah what ...
New Skype version

I used skype a few years ago ... interesting to communicate for free with other skype on the other side of the world
I wanted to use it these last day to study the possibility of telesecretariat
by loading the avira antivir software found a virus!
it works ... and I inquired about the possibility of being assigned a telephone number to be able to be called: it's not free, but seemed reasonable to me
but by informing me a little I realize that skype was bought by microsoft ... yuck
skype has always been a completely closed system
the most common VOIP phone protocol is SIP, with several different softphone software ... I tried the phone and it works
you can get a SIP number from a hosting provider like OVH for much less than skype and you can use it with any softphone software or any SIP compatible VOIP phone
so no need for skype
a small defect to report: the latest version of linphone 3.5.2 crashes on Windows XP ... the old version 3.5.0 works well

Very good remark, and not even need OVH, it is enough to have a VOIP landline (included in all subscriptions in France now) and to know your SIP number (not sure that all providers provide it on the other hand ). This allows ... anywhere in the world provided to have an internet connection, to call "like at home"!
On Android a SIP application is CSIPsimple https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... mple&hl=fr

long time ago skype worked on certain smartphone: this possibility has been removed since it is microsoft
as usual the orange live box does not work in SIP: completely locked
the free box has always been SIP compatible ... from what I see on the net, you just have to activate something in the dashboard of the box to use a SIP phone on its wifi or ethernet network
to provide free phone calls from around the world using the box number ... there must be some stick in the wheels
not to mention the free box ... it seems to me that free is also a supplier of SIP numbers for general use
attention to the trap when using several voip telephones on the same box or on the same number: it is the last telephone which called which is connected, and which rings when there is a call ... there cannot be only one phone logically connected ... one nail drives out the other, if a second phone is identified, the previous one is disconnected
at OVH it is possible to take multiple N ° and to use the OVH management tool so that a call on a N ° is transmitted to several other N ° at the same time
