But you should never forget that no bodywork you have. Thank you the stupid car, you almost made a widow and orphans if he remarried one day.
And 2000 I was hit, a little shit turned around in a bend and stalled when he saw me. I went up to Lyon on a Monday around 07 a.m. in the rain. My 750XS is embedded in its 104 behind the front passenger wheel. The shock of driving out its headlights, cutting the side member, taking out the windshield, and the driver's side 5cm of play at the door. I did not brake, opposite the other side of the Rhône we saw the hospital of Vienne. Fortunately I had my army rangers and I made a small hole in my rain suit behind the buttock. I landed in the grass on the low side. I smoked a cigarette and used its headlight as an ashtray. I was blue from ankles to balls but nothing broken.

Oh yes okay....

But this sentence is curious "Without it, in a collision at this speed, he would probably have died."

There was a collision between the motorcycle and the car.
But not between the biker and the car.
Otherwise, airbag or no airbag, he would be dead.

Basically from a few km / h any collision can be fatal.
We kill ourselves quietly on horseback or by bicycle.
And if you run straight into a wall you can kill yourself without any problem.

So THE danger is the obstacle.

Conversely you can fall at 300 km / h and get up coughing if your body has the immense chance of being able to slide without hitting anything.
And if your slide on the ground is done on as flat as possible or flexible ground (but that in general it is on the circuits).

In his case this is what happened.
Its gliding flight partly saved his life by allowing his body to decelerate gradually.
And then of course he had the bowl to fall without hitting anything other than the ground: and this is where his airbag proved to be essential.
Happy man who has not encountered a barrier, a post, a terminal or even a stone ...

It's almost what I got.
I had to be at 80 or 100km / h but never had the idea to look.
The youngster with a few days' license was looking for a garage to change his smooth tires. He was dragging himself on the road and was followed by a good twenty car. On a big road level industrial area we do not turn around everywhere and it has passed the garage. At the turn he thought he saw a path opposite.
I saw his flashing direct but especially the line of cars, so a maneuver (never done in the rain except on dry conditions) of brutal avoidance by the left by hitting with all my strength on the handlebars would have killed me by avoiding the 104 ending in a passenger compartment.
If I brake it's the same, in the wet it's direct under the 104.
It takes less than a second to decide before impact.
He could have reacted differently when he saw me than call, but accelerate to leave me a mouse hole.
So straight legs outstretched, the trunk well flat missile way by targeting the front to go over the hood.
Thinking the trunk would pull stiff legs and it worked. The condition of my handlebars: completely returned.
I took the back of his tire without taking the turn, and the grass was 2/3 meters wide. Phew.
Arrived I felt more my legs but I could move the 2 ankles well taken in the rangers. It is 2x3mm of leather there on the front of the shin level shoes. And 3 + 1mm at the ankles, there is a small folded skin under the lassage to make it waterproof.
Amazing but my rim had nothing, the crepe collector on the engine, the fork had folded to the maximum. The motorcycle remained in the car. The engine seemed to have nothing but later I discovered a tear on the cylinder head, nothing bad.
The firefighters arrive and tell me, we have to wait for the gendarmes to blow, without messing around on a Monday morning.
I had spare parts, a rusty collector and 2 fork tubes. I took 6 months to go back on it. Even on a bike I was shaking.
