It may be a bad idea. You risk ending up with
CO before the end of winter.
The obstruction valve (the smoke exit key) is actually a grid, it does not completely block the pipe;)
When I brush the chimney, I dismount the moving parts to clean them, and this valve has holes that cover at least 35% of its surface.

Bonjour,
The slow burning stove, the waterproof chimney inserts, this should be forbidden to ask keys here all the approved poels do not have a key and the regulations of the fire services, recommend an 8 duct
If you are still hanging on to the key in the waterproof chimney is that you have not understood the principle ...
Now put a fence in the fireplace I find it irresponsible that it is sold such that, sooner or later the cerosote or soot will block the fence, you would be better to put detectors of carbon monoxide.
The problem is that some company sells stove in tin can keeps soldering just one edge.
Mine is all made of sheet of 3 / 8 of inch it is able to resist a good explosion, only the pipe is thin in sheet but there is no key, so if for some reason this pette it will blow in the chimney . (this happens when you burn waste, or wood chips pressed the glue is boom, it cleans the chimney)
What is needed with these stoves is all 8 burned. or every year put the brush in the chimney.
Many furnaces can be converted into a slow-burning stove, just make it tight, put a special rope in the door seal, remove the key, put the bottom and the brick sides. the air necessary for the combustion is an entry of 15mmX15mm and again the poel in bbraise it takes less,
So if the poel is waterproof and the air intake is so small why a key in the chimney,
It is easy to recognize those who use this kind of poel
The smoke slowly comes out of the chimney it is white it does not rise above the house it tends slowly fell back ... Consumption of wood is ridiculous for the heat generated.
Andre

@Andre:
My insert is 100% cast iron, with a minimum thickness of 5mm.
The key or the flap I'm talking about is also a cast iron piece
No risk that it clogs;)
As for the smoke coming out of my duct on the roof of the house, it is practically non-existent / invisible outside (except when I start the fire).

The engineers of the French stove makers are cons, then
Yet they manage to shoot up to 83% yield ...
If I understand correctly, it avoids having too much depression in the home, which is bad for a complete combustion of gases, CO2 not CO. It seems that it needs a certain density of air, anyway.
the other solution is the additional air draft regulator. supra and deville solution.
André, stove in sheet as thick as yours, it does not exist to my knowledge on the French market. in general, it is 2mm refractory sheet, protected by cast iron plates or refractory bricks. For fireplaces philippe, there is no sheet metal at all, they are only iron plates screwed together with fireproof gasket. For me, you are in Canada or Usa

André is right, this key story is not great. The holes are good for a little security, no more.
But if, for example, you open the door of the insert without having opened your key large, and you still have a good fire, all the smoke goes into the house.
By cons, I do not know his stove, but everything is over-sized compared to what is done here.
André, how many logs can you put in and how long?
