Re: Curious and Unusual Objects

I found this curious object!

It is an old tool that looks like a big short pickaxe, but the shape of the metal part (30 cm) is curious, in the shape of a hooked beak and on the other side there is a reinforced flat part which was to serve as a support (lever) or to hit with a mass?

The handle is quite long (1m20) and large section. It is therefore an object that should surely be used for heavy work.
I thought of a stump grinder to pull up roots and stumps from the ground ...

Does anyone know the precise use of this ancient tool?

(It looks like a tool taken from the paraphernalia of revolutionary peasants, the sans-culottes, a tool used to make the revolution at the end of the 18th century! : Shock: )

Grelinette, your tool looks very much like a sapie, a kind of spike intended to handle the logs. A modification appears on your photo, this DIY is not old (arc welding) and was probably deleted after ...

Hello Ahmed,
Indeed, the tool found seems to be a (big) sapie. It is likely that the modification that you noticed allowed to tap on the metal part in order to drive the point into the wood to improve the grip or to split the wood.

Recycling of reinforced concrete in the table ... Nice but we must not move it every day! And watch out for the knees and heads of toddlers!

How much do you think she weighs? I would say 60 to 80 kg?

I found this curious object in a trash can. It is aluminum with some brass knobs.
The large plate is graduated in degrees. (360 °) and measures 30 cm in diameter. The object on its foot is approximately 15 cm high.
There is a spinning arrow.

What do you think it is?

Your responsiveness impresses me! : Shock:
Indeed, logically the graduation and the mobile arrow seem to be used to point or aim at distant points ... (it may be missing a mobile element, like a telescope, which fits between the 2 cleats on the graduated disc) .
What's weird are the brass knobs under the platter and the tabs that were supposed to be used to wedge something thin.
