Lost Cat

by Christophe » 20/07/06, 17:09

It's been a week since our cat (who is 1 year old) has not returned. We are sad and fear the worst :( :(.

We are in the countryside. He's a neutered male (electronically tattooed and vaccinated) and we left him "alone" (outside with a plate of kibble in the yard) for 3 nights last weekend. The plate had not been touched on our return ...

Since the arrival of sunny days (about 2 months), he spent 95% of his time outside (basically he came to eat, drink and make 2 or 3 hugs ... And again for hugs it was not systematic) and he slept very rarely at home (2 to 3 days the last month) .... Maybe he just sulks but still ... a week is long without eating or drinking (albeit in the countryside. ..then there are lots of cats everywhere) ...

Are there cat specialists on the forum who could reassure us or tell us what to do (if there is something to do?)?

ps: I put a small photo and a video of the beast

it is not to give you false hopes, but with this heat the cats do not eat much and can remain absent for several days.
About 3 weeks ago, the youngest, who was 2 months old, disappeared for 1 week, at this age, you tell yourself that it could have happened to him no matter what, and well he came home anyway, so cross his fingers , it is not necessarily lost.

Hello

Chances are he will return my neutered tomcat and already gone for a week and he has returned.
This usually happens if you are away from home for a full day and stay outside. Winter is more worrying, but at this time of the year, even if it is castrated, the evils tend to lie down, like last night ...
I have 3 matoux and I live near the forest, the risk is the raccoons and the red foxes which make battle ... Or a neighbor who shoots at 12 ...

Thank you, you comfort me a little but it's been 1 week already ... on the other hand I'm not afraid for food given the number of cats and dogs in the village he will find something to survive, then there are streams everywhere too so ... on this point I am confident ..

By the way technical question: you know the "range" (or range in km) of a cat, assuming that our "house" is the center of the disc?

In other words: how far can a cat go before it can track down its house?

Hello,

I sympathize with your pain, I myself have a cat that I love more than anything.

The first thing to do, and I suppose you have already done so, is of course to contact all the veterinary centers and the spa in your area. do not hesitate to search within a radius of 60km, it goes far these little beasts.

posters plastered in bistros and bakeries is a solution too, but I don't know if it really works.

I lost a cat when I was a kid, and I think it was a hunter who got it. I hope that yours has not suffered the same fate. or that he was not the victim of a road.

a friend found a cat after a week and a half by criss-crossing the roads and calling him (he was not neutered and had gone to run the girls too far). you can also try, especially if he knows the noise of your car or your motorcycle and that he is sensitive to it (if he started to meow with joy as soon as he heard you come back). cats can, despite their sense of direction, get lost. in this case, they often take refuge in an isolated and sheltered place, such as a small cave or an old abandoned farm.
a good trick to make him come if he is nearby is to shake a packet of kibble or to tap with a knife on an empty tin can (the size of the food boxes he used to hear) it works in 1 min maximum if the cat is within a radius of 800m.

a week, it's been too long for a mere sulkiness. he must have gone too far and get lost, very likely in view of the heat of these last days ... he must not be used to it. or it was stolen by tourists. it becomes unfortunately very frequent. in this case, your only hope lies in the posters, which could give remorse to the cat-nappers.

here, I don't know if I was a big help to you, but I hope that you will find your small ball of hairs.
good luck and good luck

-Pollux

edit: the "normal" range of a cat is around 60-80km. but in disturbed and hot or stormy weather, this radius can be reduced, cats are sensitive to everything that goes beyond their habits.

criticism is necessary, but the invention is vital because in any invention there is a criticism of the convention ...

Courage, all is not yet lost!

My cat is also 1 year old and I understand how you feel

We took him on vacation to the island of Oleron last week, and the first 3 days we had to pick him up a dozen times on the beach, he escaped and could not return!

Hours of anxiety ...

My cat is deaf, so more difficult to find ... we can't call him!

For the wealthy, there are geolocation systems (by very expensive GPS, or by radio - nearly 300 €)

Again, good luck to you 2

We did the "tour" of the village last night with a packet of kibble and calling it but nothing on the horizon ... (except some other cats and dogs ...)

For the GPS system it's a bit late ... but I would think about it if it comes back (provided we can use it for something else) ... it has always interested me to know how far he was going ... but he has to come back for that ...

It's been 3 weeks since we last saw him ... the hope of seeing him decreases day by day ... : Cry:

We are sensitive to your grief…

Perhaps a hope for the Assumption?

In mid-August?

Hello
I do not want to discourage you, but to exceed one month the chances of returning her very thin, something serious happened to her.
If someone holds him captive in his house and not too far away, he may escape and come back, but after a while, he adopts the new house.
Normally cats are attached to a place and not systematically to the person,
I spent 3 months in a hospital and when I returned my cats recognized me more!
