The BMW 7 Series Hydrogen is a gasoline-hydrogen hybrid.
There is therefore NO fuel cell.
It is, in double page ad, in the S&V and Science et Avenir of January. It is clearly indicated that it is not marketed (in France I suppose?).
Another video about series 7: Bmw serie 7 Hydrogen

OK I didn't know it existed. So it's a bit of a window dressing.

No, it's not window dressing, but it's unusable anywhere other than where there are hydrogen stations: there are a few in Germany precisely to run the few experimental BMWs.
It should also be remembered that hydrogen is as deceptively ecological as the electric car (see the energy balance), but it has the advantage of having a greater range of action thanks to ... the gas tank ...

The H2 sold by Total currently comes from the reforming of petroleum ... so the CO2 is simply emitted during refining. Reforming petroleum is currently the most cost effective way to make H2 (although at $ 100 a barrel ... electrolysis is probably becoming interesting) ...
Otherwise the combustion of direct H2 in engines is not recent, BMW and Mercos had worked extensively on it during the 80s.
The novelty is that the BMW Serie 7 H2 has been approved for the road in Germany, that the production line is "on point" and that there are some H2 pumps ...So I am assuming that it is sold (drip) in Germany?
That's it I understood the remark that Jean.
It's not fun but we can say that the effect of H2 is completely canceled by the large gasoline engine and the mass of the vehicle ... only interest: carbon emissions ... zero in the city.
There remains the problem of NOx ... always present (and can be even worse) by burning hydrogen ...

A V12 for driving in the city, what progress! And not even equipped with "Start and Stop"! And the efficiency of a thermal hydrogen engine must be within 10 to 15%, even lower than that of gasoline. But the important thing is that Total sells its fuel passing for an environmentalist.
