About difficult start with ethanol. I was chatting with a grandpa who told me that during the last war, they had turned a gasoline vehicle into alcohol.

Unfortunately, he did not remember the changes (63 years later) ... except that there was a coil around the exhaust to heat the alcohol
and everything came directly to the carb! But the start was only possible with gasoline (very rare at the time) and he switched to alcohol once the engine warm.
