The Avril group is launching the production of a fuel produced solely from French rapeseed, Oelo100. It will be distributed in short circuit to transport or local authorities.
Rather than continue to lament the unfair competition of Indonesian palm oil, imported by Total, or Argentinian soybean with French rapeseed to produce the 7% of biodiesel that is added to the fossil fuel, the Avril group decided to create a new outlet for French rapeseed produced by 75 000 farmers in France. It launches a biofuel meeting the European standard B100, produced at 100% based on French rapeseed, the Oleo100.
It will be produced "first at the Avril site in Grand Couronne near Rouen (Seine-Maritime) where significant investments have been made", explains Kristell Guizouarn, project manager within the Avril group. Ultimately, other production sites could be created. The group's objective for the time being is to supply 15 vehicles by 000, ie a very small part of the French heavy goods vehicle fleet, which includes 2023 trucks and 533 buses and coaches. An "ambitious" but "reasonable" goal, specifies Kristell Guizouarn. Because Avril does not want to compete with biodiesel, but targets fleets of carriers or communities engaged in an ecological transition, which it will supply directly, and not via the oil tanker pump network.

"Distributing [fuel] without an intermediary is a new profession for Avril, explains the project manager. We do not sell the Oleo 100 to an oil tanker but directly to the storage tanks. And for customers who want it, we 'will take care of everything until the installation of a connected tank. " Avril is banking on the "pride" of customers to use French rapeseed, who "will display it on their vehicles", anticipates Kristell Guizouarn. And at a cost competitive with that of diesel or CNG. The transformation to make trucks compatible with this biofuel costs only 1 euros and is paid for by Avril. Conversely, vehicle natural gas (NGV) for bioethanol requires a different engine.
April, of course, puts forward the greenhouse gas emission reductions of its rapeseed biofuel, up to -80%, but only for the old engines, such as Euro 3 or Euro 4. very polluting. The Oleo100 would have a carbon footprint 2,5 times better than conventional diesel and twice as clean as that of NGV.
France is not a pioneer. "In Sweden, fleets of buses using this type of biofuel, recognizes Kristell Guizouarn, but Avril already supplies them with part of it under another brand". And if this is not the ambition of the Avril group, which wants to limit itself to these fleets of militant transporters, the group would have the potential to run 100 to 000 heavy goods vehicles on the Oleo150.

Strangely I noticed an improvement subjective : engine smoother, less noisy.
With an added smell of french fries

The reason for the growing popularity of palm oil in agrofuels is threefold: economic, regulatory and technical.
